I am deciding between dartmouth, berkeley, and northwestern. I think i'm going to study econ/business but not positive. Anyway, my question is do you think Dartmouth is still a good fit for someone who does not like the outdoors/the nature scene? Like, I don't particularly camping/hiking/kayaking. I'm a city boy who doesn't like all the bugs and lack of technology. However, I do enjoy skiing/snowboarding and golfing. Will Dartmouth's strength in outdoor nature stuff make my experience less pleasurable? Thanks

The outdoorsy stuff here is purely an option. That is, if you want to go for a run in the woods, you can do it. It does not take away from the experience in any way. You can choose to totally dissociate the nature scene from campus life.

You are encouraged (though not required) however, to go on DOC (Dartmouth Outing Club) trips the week before classes start. I did not think that I would enjoy 3 days in the wilderness, but it turned out to be one of the best experiences I've ever had.

Dartmouth has it's own skiway that you can take advantage of in the winter. On Martin Luther King day, rentals are only a dollar. We also have a golf course (about a 7 minute walk from the center of campus).

And I wouldn't worry about the bugs or technology. I don't think I've even encountered a bug in my two and a half terms here. The entire campus is wired, everyone has a laptop, and life runs on blitz (our e-mail).

Yea, I'm not a student (yet), but I get the feeling that Dartmouth is one of the most technologically equipped of the Ivies.

i am a dartmouth student who is not nature inclined (at all) and still have an amazing time. before attending dartmouth i had never been camping or hiking and was apprehensive about even signing up for DOC trips. but i went and had one of the most amazing four days. it was sooooo much fun. however thats the only outdoorsy thing ive done at dartmouth haha.

so no worries. you can go to dartmouth and have fun. AND going skiing is pretty popular so you'll definately have a lot of fun!

We're a diverse school. You'll definitely fit in.

wow thanks for the fast and detailed responses. i figured as much but just wanted some support. and btw i wasnt asking about how wired the campus was, but i was just saying i prefer technology and city and indoors vs outdoors. but hey i'll give it a try probably. i am pumped dartmouth seems so amazing
