**Dartmouth International Applicant's Thread 2017**

@rishav
would probably have been the better choice for me. :smiley:
But you SAT is over 2000/2100? Wouldn’t worry about that score :)

Yes, and I know that I would definitly regret it if I didn’t apply.

Thanks :)

@Sunny
21 is still pretty good! I assume you have had to do the TOEFL (or similar)? or was your English good enough?
I don’t know if the admissions officers know this, but according to the couple of German people I know, English isn’t as widely spoken in Germany as I thought… I thought a lot of people had learnt and were fluent in reading, writing and speaking English to a decent level of proficiency. Hopefully that can come in - maybe it came across through your interview (if it was in English)?

If I was religious I’d say I’ll pray for you :stuck_out_tongue: but I am here supporting you :slight_smile:
How about this;

“We regret to inform you, that amongst the thousands of people who applied as international students, we were unable to take many of them as we only provide very few places to the top few. On this note, we regret that if you decide to acknowledge your acceptance to Dartmouth, you will have to spend the next few years of your life working hard and emptying your parent’s pockets… Congratulations!”

^ That could be a pretty interesting acceptance letter don’t you think? :)

@Rishav
Glad you are also trying! :smiley: There has got to be no worse feeling than regret that you didn’t try!
I don’t want to even think about what the rejection letters will be like -_- I just hope I get more yes’s than no’s! haha… actually I hope I get at least one yes! :|

And on the sideline… what happened to Blue, Aus, PO, and everyone?! It seems like us three and Quiver have been the most active these past few days…
Come on people!!
Si tu preferes le fran

@EVERYONE
If we don’t get accepted and all still want Dartmouth… maybe retake SAT/ACT, do something amazing like Quiver (congrats again there!) and try apply as transfers? Next best solution?

Be like William Wallace, The fellowship of the ring, Harry Potter and anyone else notable, real or imaginary, who NEVER GAVE UP! :D

@Raith
wasn’t good enough. I took the IELTS :slight_smile:
I always thought that there are a lot of people who speak English fluently in Germany, too. But it’s only a third who can talk at least to make them understandable. Quite less I think.
My interview was in English :slight_smile:

That would be harsh but I don’t know if I would read until the word congratulations :D

Talking about rejections. I just got one! (because they cannot offer the financial aid I require). Now I am really disappointed. -.-

Tr

Haha, Interesting acceptance letter!!
And I applied for aid everywhere, so except for Pton & Dartmouth(which are need blind), my chances elsewhere are less than 0… if it could be so… Haha!!
And I’m already preparing myself for transfers!! Haha!! :slight_smile:
I guess blue’s busy studying for his board exams!!

@Sunny12 - If you’re high school grades are good and essays are strong, you CAN be that exception… the one that got in with a low ACT!! :slight_smile:
If it doesn’t work out this year. There’s always the option of a transfer!! :D

And despite my decent SAT, my lack of ECs and want of aid – makes my chances bleak!!

@rishav
I really hope so :slight_smile:
I would try to transfer, too :). But first I have to find a college that I can attend. :D

That’s one reason I applied to Dartmouth need-blind for everyone. :)

@Sunny
oh ok.
Well maybe the fact that you seem to do pretty well in English (I haven’t noticed any major problems with your writing anyway) and come from a country with a few people who speak English, it might help?

Haha yea :stuck_out_tongue: would be a harsh acceptance letter… but imagine if you stopped reading it and then your mum or dad read it and noticed that you got accepted?! Imagine how happy you’d be :wink: probably p***** off at the letter, but still happy! :D

Where was the rejection from? :(

Haha, tr

@Raith
I really hope it will help. Or being the only applicant from Germany (think would increase my chance too) - just dreams :smiley:

It would be worst case scenario :smiley: my parents don’t speak English very well. So, they wouldn’t understand the letter and possibly throw it away. Imagine the acceptance letter is just like you wrote it. I stopped after “we regret…” and than after May 1 I receive an e-mail saying that I didn’t pay the deposit and they do not offer me a place anymore. ;D Now I think, I will read the whole letter :smiley:

From Hanover College, but there is also a sentence saying “Sophia, based on your academic credentials, I know you could be a competitive candidate for admission at Hanover or another college or university. Therefore, please let us know if your financial situation changes. We appreciate your interest in Hanover College and wish you well in future endeavors.”

Any advice where to find a sponsor? :smiley:

I noticed that a lot of schools offer scholarships for Asian students. But I am neither Asian nor a black women :confused: And my country won’t provide me financial aid for the US.

Merci beaucoup, mais j’aura une interrogation au lundi. C’est pourquoi je dois apprendre un peut francais. :D

@Sunny/Sophia :stuck_out_tongue: (nice name by the way)
I’m sure that if you are the only applicant from Germany your chances would increase :P

Advice with letters… always read EVERYTHING! haha! :stuck_out_tongue: but from what I have heard, they often make it clear if you are accepted even on the envelope!

I have a friend who lives in Hanover! :smiley: anyway… How much aid are you needing? percentage of the cost anyway (or value if you know)?
Maybe try talk to your school/teachers and if you are one of their top students maybe they can help work something out? But try check online… type in “Scholarship [your intended major if you can decide] europe germany” (obviously in German was be easiest). You might have to spend some time looking, but try it. It might help with Hanover, and you might be able to find a few for the US as well?

Lundi?! Bonne chance! Tu peut practiquer ton fran

@Raith
Thanks ;)

Dear German students,
please do not apply to Dartmouth! Apply to any other college, but please not to my dream college!

If it would be that easy.xD But I think you have a great chance being from Mauritius, or do you know someone else applying? :)

I have to pay at least $25,000 per year. That’s a great idea, thanks :wink: I think I will try to talk to my English teacher on Tuesday :slight_smile:

I have already done that, some of them only pay for 9months and others don’t let you choose a school (…). But I will try to find something :)

Or, you know what? I will win in the lottery! :smiley:

I just noticed, do we speak about the same Hanover? ;D Because I applied to Hanover College, Indiana US. Do you mean the German city Hanover? :smiley:

Merci. Les sujets pour mon interrogation est agricultur, ferme, l’

@Sunny
HAHA! Yea cause all German students will listen to you :stuck_out_tongue: plus… you seem to be the only one on CC, so I don’t know if any others will even see your post :frowning:

I don’t know if they count me as Mauritius :S Probably South Africa - I am South African by birth, British through my mum, and only live in Mauritius (not a citizen). I do know a couple people applying to top US universities from both South Africa and Mauritius (not sure if they are including Dartmouth though).

Its a lot of money, but I would have thought they would have been able to offer a place with limited aid?
And yea, I thought you meant Hanover, Germany :wink:

Si j’aurais la m

Haha…just an interesting note: Scroll down this page from the top. Lot of smileys/emoticons.;)

@Better
Haha yes, yes there are :slight_smile: :wink: :smiley: :wink: :slight_smile: :D

@Raith
At least I have more hope if I don’t meet any German students on here :smiley:
Maybe you have luck and will be the only one! :)

actually, it is a place with limited aid. School cost is about $42,000 and I have to pay $25,000.

Mine should be better as well, studied French for 7 years. Awkward that I can’t talk to others in French :D

That would be awesome. Another reason why we have to get accepted :)

@Sunny
ALL GERMAN STUDENTS… BACK AWAY FROM DARTMOUTH…

You know, trying to help ^ :stuck_out_tongue: but really every international student is welcome… even if the next 100 are all from South Africa and Mauritius (would make me sad and nervous… but they are welcome)

Oh ok, I think I misunderstood, I really hope you can find the aid! Or get accepted needs blind at Dartmouth :D

Yea, we seem to keep building more reasons why we “have” to be accepted to Dartmouth…

7 years!.. you still write very well. You shouldn’t worry about your presentation :)

@Raith
Thanks for the help :wink:
Sure we welcome everyone. Would be amazing if our little community grows more and more :)

That would be the best! :D

Hello everyone,
Apologies if my post offended anyone.
Also , I’ve noticed that you guys are becoming a bit diffident , so if you want a more real view of the kind of students that get accepted, have you checked out the RD acceptances for the class of 2016 ?
It might be a good source of information for all of you :slight_smile:
Also , just some advice , while Dartmouth is a great school , do think of other colleges so that you don’t feel too heartbroken in case you receive a rejection but at the same time keep your dream alive.

I wish you all the very best !

Also , is Dartmouth your number 1 choice? If not , then what is ? :smiley:
Also , any specific activity you’ll
Be looking forward to if you get in there ? Perhaps the Winter Carnival ? :D

@goingtodart

it’s my first choice. What about you? :)

Wow! I missed quite a lot:) I am hoping to get wait-listed atleast at Dartmouth:)
