@Raith
Sounds hard to get a good grade :/

sounds pretty intense bro. More intense than AP courses for sure.

Well, in India we have different curricula - ISC is one of them(most prestigious some say), which is based on the old British system! CBSE is the central govt. monitored curriculum and then there are other State monitored curricula!

http://www.cisce.org/isc_XII_Syllabus_year_2013.html

^ That’s the link for our syllabus!! :D

And we have only 1 paper for all subjects + Pracs for the sciences!!
Though Arts has 5 papers & so do some other non-conventional options!!

@Sunny
Well they have a grade curve… so depending on how people do and how difficult the paper was set, and A can be 60% or 95% (which makes trying to work out my GPA pointless unless I take my A*s as 4.0s and accordingly…

@Boss
Pretty intense - but I don’t really know any different (like how most people view how the oriental Asians do work, whereas I think they think it is normal?)

@Rishav
I’m going to look at the Syllabus (I love trying to understand the different systems and seeing what is good/bad about them) I wish we only had one paper for all our subjects (as long as the exam time was the same) :P

@rishav
I just read parts of English and Maths; your exams sound hard, too. My exams are kind of easy compared to yours
You would laugh about my English exam :D

@Rishav
Your maths syllabus is very impressive! It covers everything in our normal maths, and parts of our FM. The following is the comparison I have found, I can post the link to our syllabus, but honestly it isn’t written as in depth or systematically as yours Obviously this is all taken from the syllabus content that you posted, and anything extra I can’t really comment on xP

[ul]
[]We go further with our proof by induction however; differentiation, integration for things to the power on “n” or with “n” terms placed in the expressions.
[]We do 2nd order differential equation involving trig and using substitution to simplify the expression.
[]It appear we go further into matrix methods and integration and differentiation techniques
[]We seem to do a lot more mechanics than what you cover in your physics and maths
[/ul]

However, your syllabus does have a couple sections that we did not touch upon in the syllabus (though I feel the people in my class still did read the sections as they were in our book);
[ul]
[]Conics and hyperbolic equations are not in our syllabus.
[]It appears you go further into complex number in the more difficult half of the syllabus outline.
[]I could be wrong, but it looked like you had a small portion of what looked like financial maths as well?
[]I think you guys also go further into series and sequences, but I say this as I didn’t recognise a couple of the terms in the syllabus.
[/ul]

Once again, really nice syllabus content challenging, in depth, broad enough that it covers many different topics awesome

I feel sorry for whoever joins on “late” today… we must have covered about 3 - 5 pages? :P

@Raith - you’re pretty much on the spot with the comparison.

As far as financial math goes, most of it is optional!!

Actually both science & commerce streams have the same math exam! But the 2nd part is divided into 2 sec B & sec C. Here the student can choose to attempt any one section! Financial math’s in Sec C & 3D, Vectors, etc. are in Sec B. There is no compulsion though!! :)

And I don’t really get what you mean by mechanics?? :O

Induction’s pretty small in our syllabus. Our Integration & Differentiation though goes pretty deep!! We have all different kinds of special integrals! A recent formula check by one of my friends put the no. of integration formulae at 55!! :p

Differential Eqns. is something that I STILL haven’t touched upon!! (Yes, I still manage to get by my internal exams without knowing complete topics… It’s because of an interesting questioning pattern!! )

And yes, we have a LOT of conics & complex no.'s!! :)

Didn’t even notice… We’ve crossed 500 posts!! LOL!!
That’s approximately –
509 posts in 14 days
Which is on average 36 posts/day!! Woah!! Must be a new CC record!! :D

@Rishav
Oh ok, if I was doing your exams I’d prefer to stay away from the financial maths (unless I felt like I would do terribly on the other section) :P

Mechanics has been integrated into your physics syllabus- momentum, angular momentum, angular inertia, collisions, projectiles, equilibria of forces, work/energy/power. But as it has been integrated into your physics, much of what we did in FM is more in depth (though you seem to cover many of the topics, the side notes say basic questions involving them).

Oh ok, induction was a pretty big part for us, often it brought in series and sequences (though not with the formulae, just in the actual principle; like proving that for a particular case, the equation for the sum/product etc of the series is “something”).

Well if you need help with differential equations I am happy to help. Over skype or something? Probably one of my best sections. Go to question 8 - 2nd order differential equation; http://papers.xtremepapers.com/CIE/Cambridge%20International%20A%20and%20AS%20Level/Mathematics%20-%20Further%20(9231)/9231_s12_qp_12.pdf

@Rishav
I don’t think it is a record I am sure those really important threads that are relevant to a lot of people (lets call it a decision thread, info etc) get a lot more posts per time… I think we might have a record for posts per day per number of people.

now coined as: P/dp (posts per day person) xP

Wow. So many intellectual discussions *_o

@Blue
Feel free to join in… or cross discuss something of your choice with someone else? Or maybe Rishav and I should stop? we’ve probably bored a couple of people by now (though I kinda enjoyed learning about your system) :)

@Raith. Well yesterday was alcoholic day!! Today seems to be Syllabus day!!
God knows what tomorrow will be!!
Guess we should also note the no. of topics/thread!! :D

And well, I doubt a “decision thread” can keep up the pace!! Cause I doubt we’re going to stop anytime in the near future!! :)

Anyway that’s it for me today!! Have my chemistry practicals tomorrow & then will go meet a friend from my prev. school, who’s in town for the NDA(National Defense Academy) Medical test!!
So I will be away for a long time tomorrow!!

@Rishav
True… this is the new international “scene” on CC… maybe not but it seems to be doing pretty well :)

Good luck for the Chem Prac! Remember… HCl is not meant for drinking! And don’t leave the gas running xP

And good luck for your friend, have a great time. Catch you soon

Haha. Well I’m really stressing out, also i have to write to Dartmouth because my application tracker has been the same -_-

Also, i think this post will soon become the longest one on CC.

36 posts a day. Almost 59 days for results.
So, 2124 more posts. God thats a lot.

@Blue
Try not to stress, call it my background having lived on an island… but chill, go with the flow But yea, it does seem like you will have to send them an email about that :/

Well I like to think this thread has the potential to keep the momentum to get up there, but I doubt I will be able to post on here as often as I’ll be going for my work experience (and not an office job, so probably only going to get a chance to come on for a few hours a day maybe…) And then so many others also have school etc at the moment… tough I’d imagine this thread will come alive at least a few days before the results come out as people get nervous/excited and hopefully most of us get accepted and join Nock and Dart :)

@bLUE i guess i need to call them too.but wait…they said mid-feb RIGHT!??

@Blue and @Quiver
I suppose they did say mid Feb… but you would also hope that if your application was incomplete that they would contact you (and obviously if your application isn’t incomplete then you’d hope that they would say that too)… Give it to the 10th? But probably safer now, maybe asking if they have completed organising/sorting through applicants material and if so, that your application status hasn’t changed accordingly :/

10th is the D-Day I guess:) cause its my Birthday too:)
