Hanover, NH… more like Hangover, NH. Haha.

/contribution over

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: They’re both great schools and offer wonderful opportunities to prospective students, but are strong in different areas and offer different environments, hence why they appeal to a myriad of students.

If you really want to make a ****ing contest out of it, Penn is higher on the USNews rankings.

sigh This is why the HYP kids laugh at the other Ivies. We need to all be respectful! I mean, we made it to the Ivy League for God’s sake!

Agreed. Except for Cornell.

Such a double standard. Maybe if you stopped the incessant bickering, HYP students would take you seriously.

HYP students respect me as a peer because of my sheer academic and intellectual prowess and accomplishments, not because I don’t argue with Dartmouth students.

They don’t generally HAVE to because of their schools’ prestige, but that doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t. Princeton and Yale students fight just as much about their rivalries with Harvard and vice versa, haven’t you seen?

Yes, and you’ve spent this entire thread trying to defend against people saying Penn is sh**tier than Dartmouth.

What sources and arguments did you have to scrounge up to defend yourselves?

That rankings are subjective and make little difference? That you should choose a school based on fit? That different schools have different atmospheres? That admit rate is a poor indicator of selectivity? That SAT scores are also a poor indicator of student quality? That other factors go into cross admit selection than which is perceived as higher ranked?

Wait, these all sound like arguments Cornell students have made in your incessant flame wars. So if you guys are going to bash Cornell and wave your hands when we defend our school with those arguments, don’t expect to come onto your own board and use the same arguments to defend yourselves against someone else.

It’s hypocritical and laughable.

What the hell are you talking about?

Let’s talk about SATs:
Dartmouth’s SAT scores are 3 points higher than Penn’s. For the class of 2012, Penn’s average was 1437, Dartmouth’s was 1440. That’s not even an entire question different!

Let’s talk about high school rank:
98.9% of Penn’s incoming class of 2012 was ranked in the top 10% of their high school classes. Dartmouth’s class of 2012 was 90.2%. That’s a pretty big difference.

Let’s talk about ACTs:
Penn:32.5
Dartmouth: 31

Also a large difference.

Bottom line - looking at all the info, it certainly appears that Penn is at least as selective - and possibly much MORE selective - than Dartmouth.

Are you happy I looked up all the info now?

All information from:
[Class Profile](<a href=“Home | Dartmouth Admissions”>Home | Dartmouth Admissions)
[Penn: Facts and Figures](http://www.upenn.edu/about/facts.php)

Seriously, I just nailed you. Admit it.

Maybe you nailed him, but you’re not helping this thread die. I think both schools are on the same level of selectivity; Penn leads in average HS rank/GPA and ACTs, but Dartmouth isn’t significantly LESS selective.

When I chose Penn over Dartmouth, I did so not for selectivity but the urban location and incredible departments (w0000t #4 English).

Okay muerte you are an absolute tool.

Now defend yourself against Columbia.

^
Penn #6 on US News

Columbia #8 on US News

The last time Columbia was ranked higher was in 1997.

this thread should never die.

Lol @ Chendrix calling me a tool, simply for defusing his entire argument.

In the indomitable words of GOB Bluth:
I mean, come on!

hahahahahahahaha

Arguing between Penn and Columbia is just ridiculous… Columbia’s acceptance rate may be much lower, but the difference between the two schools depends on your major of interest and the different vibes of the two schools. I was accepted to both Penn and Columbia, but chose Penn because it felt more welcoming and because I was offered the Vagelos Scholar Program and BFS. I know plenty of people form my school who got into Columbia as, for example, a John Jay Scholar, but still got rejected from Penn.

Moreover, I was accepted to Columbia as a Rabi Scholar (which is offered to about 2% of the undergraduate class, if that) but still turned it down because I liked everything else about Penn better. I would be most likely be happy at either school, but this is all a matter of personal preference. Penn students are neither more intelligent nor dumber than students at Columbia.

the thread is back!!! back again. guess who’s back! guess who’s back!

The vag program is pretty incredible, but I still don’t know anyone who’s actually finished it yet. Good luck, Penn_13.

what is it with this dartmouth act? i just looked at their site and it’s full of “dartmouth is harder to…than…” over and over and over and over…it’s a little late for that action now, isn’t it? don’t we all know pretty much where we’re going to go and think it’s about the best there is for each of us? hope so anyway. so give this game a rest until next year.
