As of right now Dartmouth is my favorite school and I think I will ed there. I am obsessed with Dartmouth. It just seems so sick. I just have a few questions for you guys.
- please describe social life. Does Dartmouth play hard? I know they obviously work hard but have heard the administration is pushing for no drinking and no there is no longer like hard liquor allowed. Is this movement effecting social life or nah?
- Research- I want to do research while I am at Dartmouth. How hard is it to do research with your professors? Do most people do it?
- Academics Scene- is Dartmouth cutthroat?
- D-Term- can someone explain more about what their d terms were like?
- Ski- to all the ski bums there, do you have time to ski during winter with all the work.
- Sports- do most people play some sport. Is it very rah rah and spirited?
- These are the other schools I am thinking abt applying ed to if you would like to convince me not to go there. Duke Middlebury Georgetown Emory.
Greek life is central to the culture.
It not it cut throat in the u Chicago Berkeley or Cornell type mode
People ski. It’s in Hanover no on the border with white river junction by . There’s local skiing available but real skiing is a weekend trip or day to stow or other nearby mountains
Lots of students play sports intramural and club. It’s a sporty overall group but not required.
Hi. I am a current Dartmouth student. Here are my answers to your questions:
-
The school’s social scene is what you make of it. There are students who love to go out, and then there are students who don’t. You will be able to find a solid friend crew with similar social aspirations as you. With that said, I would definitely say the school is very social.

Doing research on campus is very easy. I do research on campus with a professor at one of Dartmouth’s graduate schools which is very cool. A lot of students do research.
-
Academics are not cutthroat at all. Everyone shares notes and is willing to help one another out. For all of my classes I am always involved in some sort of study group.
-
My d-term is that I was on all four terms during sophomore year, and then I took junior winter off. This is a very common d-term for many students.

There is plenty of time to ski during the winter. I even took skiing as a PE class and was able to ski at the Dartmouth Skiway for a PE credit. Beyond winter there is plenty of time to be outdoors and do hikes or swim in the river.

I would say that there is a fair mix of students who play and do not play sports. The school is somewhat spirited. For example, the homecoming football game is always fun, and a lot of students go to hockey games.

I was ultimately deciding between Dartmouth and Georgetown and decided on Dartmouth. In my experience, Dartmouth had a much better social scene and more “well-rounded” students.
