Dartmouth or Amherst Which one judges you as a whole?

I've heard of many information that Amherst tend to recruit students with high SAT and Dartmouth would like to consider a student sythetically. But the statistic numbers on Princeton Reviews indicates that Dart's sat is higher than Amherst meanwhile Amherst students' ranking are lower than dart in general.

so could anybody tells me which college judges a person as a whole instead of focus on merely one or two sides ?

I think both have very similar admissions strategies. Both want good stats - but also are looking to create interesting, diverse, classes.

(not here bragging about my test scores) but i got a 2400 and almost perfect sat IIs and rejected by amherst but accepted by dartmouth. i would say amherst looks at applicants just as holistically. to be honest my extracurriculars were a little on the thin side which was probably why i got rejected by amherst and several other top tier schools. i would say virtually all top tier schools, including both dartmouth and amherst, judge students holistically. if you still have enough time to pad up your resume i would strongly advise doing so. and i might add that, at least from my own experience, expressing interest to the right people in the dartmouth adcom helps a lot too.

I think both, like the vast majority of colleges, look at rank/SAT before anything else matters.

I think they’re looking for very similar things. Both accepted me. None of my other reach schools did.

If you have really strong SATs, both Amherst and Dartmouth will judge you holistically. If you have mediocre SATs, they will judge you on stats.
