How many transfer students does Dartmouth admit? What schools might they come from? Does anyone transfer out?

Last year nobody was accepted. They over-enrolled last year's freshman class, so they didn't accept any transfers. This year, it is unknown what will happen until the yield numbers come in.

Thanks, it sounds like it is very competitive to transfer into Dartmouth. Do you know if people transfer out of Dartmouth to other schools? Is it possible to transfer from one Ivy school to another?

When do we find out about transfers?

Yes, there are people who transfer out (but Dartmouth's retention rate is really high).

I would agree that it is very competitive to transfer in (but so is getting accepted as a freshman). I don't know which is harder though.

Yes, all ivies allow transferring. But, there has been a decrease in the number of transfers accepted recently. Harvard announced a month ago that they weren't taking any transfers.

I am not sure about this, but I remember people hearing about transfers in june last year.

Dartmoose, I think you're mixing up the facts for being admitted off the waitlist and being admitted as a transfer. The odds are VERY slim, but last year some lucky students were accepted for transfer. Transfer students typically learn of their admission decision by the end of May. The waitlist game on the other hand, can drag out into June and there are years when no one gets off the waitlist.

thedalles and LON1188, if you're interested you should check out the transfer forum. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/467270-dartmouth-2008-transfer-applicants.html is a great place to look for info on this year's transfer process and within the thread there are links to older threads that show the acceptance/rejection results for transfers.

I am not mixed up. They released a statement last year that they were neither accepting off the waitlist, nor accepting transfer students (to make room for the class which over-enrolled). But, it is unknown if they will over-enroll again, or if they still need to continue to cut down in order to make up for the space problems caused by last year's class.

The only thing that might not be correct is the time when they find out. But, I already said I wasn't sure.

um, I know people who transferred, and are now members of the class of 2010 ... Fall was their first term at Dartmouth ... soooooooo .... yea a few people got to transfer into Dartmouth last year.

12% acceptance rate last year for Dartmouth transfers - it is significantly more competitive than freshmen admissions.

And Dartmoose, can't you just accept the fact that you were misinformed? "I am not mixed up" is such a hostile response considering you were, in fact, mixed up. You are right - no one was accepted off the waitlist because the class of 2011 was overenrolled. However, there was no statement released on a decision to deny all transfer applicants ... because that was not the case.

Dartmoose was referring to Harvard about the "no transfers" statement. And yes, Harvard did release a statement saying they were not accepting transfers for the class of 2012.

I have no idea about his other points though.

I actually did an exchange (leverage for transfer!!) at Dartmouth for fall 08 and there were 22 transfers; 90% as sophomores and 10% as juniors I think.

I also spoke with the admissions office. An officer told me their acceptance rate is about 7-8% for transfers.

7-8% for transfers, so low… I want to transfer to Dartmouth this year~

^^When you dig up old threads, you often get out dated information.
