I was listening to the Chat and something was mentioned about Dartmouth owning a Ski resort (not sure if the word "resort" was used).

And this is a great place to meet or spend time with other Dartmouth students.

Where is this place and how far away is it from campus.

Also, a shuttle service was mentioned (sorry, again, don't remember the correct language used).

Any information would be useful.

Do most students bring their own skis and snowboards or do some rent.

The Dartmouth Skiway is about 25 mins from campus in nearby Lyme Center, NH. It’s not really a resort - it’s a small family area with about 1000 feet of vertical.

[Dartmouth Skiway](Dartmouth Skiway)

It’s pretty cheap (i think ~$150) for a season pass for students.

There are season rentals available both through the PE office (along with lessons for students) as well as through the Skiway itself. There are daily rentals available at the skiway too.

There’s a shuttle that runs (primarily for lessons) tuesday-friday (at least, when I was there), and a free shuttle that runs on weekends during Winter term.

I would say a majority of students who go to the skiway at anytime have their own equipment, but a VAST majority of the students who are taking lessons rent.

Any other questions, I’d be glad to help. I was at the Skiway 3-5 days/week when I was at Dartmouth.

I was told on the tour that there are shuttles to Killington for skiing. It was one of the reasons I applied, but I couldn’t find any information on it. Is it true?

Honestly don’t know about shuttles, but my In my time there were people driving to killington on a regular basis during the winter. Just need to find the right people and you can get rides. The skyway in Lyme is easy and cheap, great place for a few quick runs or a half day event. Whaleback was also open back then, but might have closed since. It had night skiing under lights.

As of last year (2010-11), Whaleback was still up and running. There are always people driving to both Killington and Stowe (college deals are better at Stowe, as is the terrain), but there aren’t any college-run shuttles (unless new this year).
