I've always had this idea in my head that when I go to college I would have the chance of getting a boyfriend, I want to go to FIT. Can anyone tell me if they meet people from other schools or in the city? Is it hard? Just wondering.

kim12344, Let me just say that my daughter is a freshman at FIT, she loves, loves, loves the school and being in the city. However, I had a recent phone conversation with her in which she brought up the topic of “meeting guys” and how there isn’t a whole lot of that going on. First of all, the population is such that there are many more girls than boys, and in addition, a large majority of the “available” guys are not looking for "girl"friends. I don’t want to insult anyone, it’s just a fact. Also, it’s not as easy as everyone likes to think that one could just walk among the millions of people in NY and accidentally bump into mr. right. I know she has met some people at NYU, so there’s an option.

All in all, I would say that if “getting a boyfriend” is at the top of your list for choosing to go to FIT, you MAY be disappointed. If, however, you want a top notch education in your field with many real life experiences and opportunites, in a very motivating and creative environment, then FIT is the place to be.

My girlfriend attends FIT, I visited her a couple times. I’ll give you a little perspective on the campus in MY opinion and in hers. FIT does attract a lot more girls than guys that much is obvious. The guys that go there are really not ones you want to be dating, I met quite a few people in my stays there and my girlfriend thinks all of the guys are lunatics.

The first time I visited her at FIT, we were out front of the dorms nearest to W 27th street, so goes in to get her wallet and I didnt go because you have to check in everytime you go in and out in a way. So I light up a cigarette to wait for her. (Now I’m not trying to boast or anything or say I’m super attractive) 30 seconds pass and girl walks out walks right up to me asks me for a lighter and starts a convo with me and is essentially hitting on me this happened twice in the 10 minutes she was gone. I swear some of those girls can seriously tell within a second if you are gay or not and they pounce. Many of her roomates complain that getting a decent guy that goes to FIT is very hard because there is a lot of competition.

As for the boyfriend material, there isn’t really any most of them are gay or absolute tools in my opinion. A trip to Triple Crown might change that though (the bar down the street that doesn’t card anyone).

You will meet guys and friends be careful who. Cocaine is huge with a lot of the people that go there or atleast from what she has seen. A lot of the people I met were extremely sketchy.

As for other schools you are in close correlation to NYU, Columbia, NYIT etc… You will definitely make some friends with people from other schools. My girlfriend was very good friends with a couple that went to NYU.

Also PM if you want some sites that have reviews of every aspect of FIT.

And please for your sake, dont get caught up in the club scene, its ruined quite a few.
