As of now I am enrolled in Wake Forest since i was wait listed at Davidson originally but sunday i recieved a call from their offices saying that they want to give me a spot in the class of 2010. Please give me some feedback on this decision. Which would you chose and why?

It stands to reason that those on the Davidson board would probably tell you to go to Davidson and those on the Wake Forest board would say go to Wake. ;) That being said, both have some great merits. Davidson is a smaller community than Wake Forest and has rigorous academics just like WFU. Wake has more graduate schools and has a bit of a bigger feel to it I think...especially with the ACC sports. I think you can get a great education at both and it is about individual fit definitely but I would stick with Wake Forest if it were my decision.

I got a call Monday saying they would offer me a spot in the class (I was on the waiting list). I turned them down today for Chapel Hill, although Davidson was my first choice. I chose Chapel Hill because EVERYONE I know who went to Davidson (5 or more people I talked to) said it was extremely stressful and a very intense atmosphere. It is well-known to a lot of people that Davidson is one of the hardest schools in the country - but graduate schools don't necessarily know that. Consistently only 1 person ends up with a 3.8 or higher. It's a fantastic school and I think that Davidson provides its students with outstanding resources, but at the same time I'm kind of sensitive to pressure. If you get a call saying you've been admitted from the waiting list, keep in mind Davidson's size (they don't offer a lot of variety when it comes to classes) and the EXTREMELY rigorous academics, and think about if that's what you want in a college. Most people I talked to said they loved it and they would do it all over again, but I still think Chapel Hill would be a better place for me.

Hi I was accepted to Wake and Emory...but turned both of them down for Davidson. Well I didnt want to be taught by graduate students and I know that at Davidson that is not going to happen. A lot of people say it is very academically rigorous but I won't know that until I am there, and it actually does not bother me at all.

Dude, Davidson is Davidson. It's one of the best schools in the country. Wake Forest cannot lay claim to the same title.

I was admitted RD by both Wake Forest and Davidson years ago, and I picked Wake Forest because it didn't seem quite as small and because it seemed to offer more school spirit.

They are both great school, and you just need to decide in what sort of environment you want to learn over the next four years.

polo, saying "Wake Forest cannot lay claim to the same title" as Davidson is pretty ridiculous. neither of the two is a runaway better school; they are pretty close. if anything, however, i would say wake is better, but only by a hair. but w&l is better than both. :-)

my top two choices were davidson and wake forest. after visiting both, i applied early decision at wake and am happy there. i know a lot of people at wake forest who decided between these two (and i'm sure there are a lot of people at davidson who did the same). for me, it just came down to gut feeling.

On school spriit at Davidson: About 400 students of 1700 made the hike to Dayton Ohio this spring to watch the Wildcats play vs Ohio State in the NCAA Basketball tournament. Clearly we are the only school that had about 1/4 of the students travel to any game over 8 hours from campus, and we were one of the smallest schools in the tournament, oh and by the way we were up 4 at half time vs Ohio State in Dayton Ohio lol. Most of us rearranged tests and quizes, it was a popular test Friday (game day) / Monday, but the honor code helps profs feel comfortable allowing students to self schedule their own test. So I just want to say Davidson students have their priorities in all the right places hehe.

I was down to either Davidson, Boston College or William and Mary, and chose W and M. I actually would agree that Davidson has the most rigorous academcis, way above wake forest, but it was waayyy to small for me. Great School though

I had to choose between Brown, Georgetown, and Davidson...I have chosen Davidson because I liked the smaller atmosphere and the strong honor code. After visiting, I did see that the academic environment is quite rigorous...but I didn't exactly expect college to be easy. I am planning on pre-med though, so Davidson obviously holds its own in that reguard. As far as making a decision on which college to attend though, I would reccomend anyone to go with their gut. No school is a runaway better school...the individual aspects of one college may be more important that the relative reputation of another instituion.

You have an awesome problem, you can't go wrong with either school. You can't justify saying that Davidson doesn't compare to Wake Forest academically. I'd say they are very close, and Wake's academics might be better. That is impressive that so many kids went to the NCAA's, but at Wake you are in the best conference for athletics in the nation: the ACC! I'd stick with Wake, but you can't go wrong with either. Hopefully I'll see you there next year :)

Being in a good conference does not equal good school spirit -- but a huge sports fan might agree with you and prefer the strong conference opponents. I feel like at Davidson where you know the atheletes are held to an equally high academic standard as the rest of the students - you can be much more proud of their acheiivement, and thus much more interested in cheering them on.

Established Southern Schools:

-Davidson, UNC, Virginia, W&L, W&M

Upstarts:

-Duke, Emory, Vanderbilt, Wake

First of all Mac, he only asked about Davidson and Wake.

Second of all, that list is just funny.

Third, it does nothing to help in his decision.

Sure it does. It helps him cut through the hype. I don't know of any Duke, Emory, Vanderbilt or Wake grads on Wall Street.

You don't say what major you may be interested in? Davidson is very small. Wake is good size--still have small classes but a university feel to campus. Davidson in a very small town, Charlotte is close by. Neither school uses TAs to teach classes. Wake offers research opportunities for undergrads--I'm not sure of Davidson. Both schools are rigorous and I hear of grade deflation at both. Don't think you can go wrong. Like the other posters have said, it's what feels right for you.

My daughter is at a very small school and has liked it. However my sons wanted something bigger, but not so big that they had 100+ students in classes.

"I don't know of any Duke, Emory, Vanderbilt or Wake grads on Wall Street."

I go to Vandy, and work on Wall Street. Feel free to PM me.

My oldest brother is a Wake grad and currently works on Wall Street

lol, I know at least 3 Duke grads on Wall-Street, 3 Emory grads, and 1 Vanderbilt grad. (all recent grads.)

Just because you don't know of them, doesn't mean they don't exist
