This kind of depends on what you are looking for in a college. Both are very good schools, but they are very different.

Ohio State is a large public university, which means a couple of things. There are more majors and fields of study, you would have more resources, it would be cheaper many companies like to use large universities as a place to scout out new employees, and it may be more fun if you like the big active scene. The classes however are usually bigger, you get less of a personal feel, and in my opinion, the campus is not as nice.

Dayton is a mid-sized private university. It has a good amount of majors and area of study, but not quite as large, it has a smaller, more homey and personal feel, it is private, so typically the students are somewhat more qualified overall, it costs more, the campus is nice and so on.

In some people’s opinion, the “niceness” of the people could go either way. It seemed to me that the people at Dayton were very nice, but often times I have heard that students at private schools can be on the snooty side.

Really though, I think that you should visit both universities, you can really tell on a campus visit if it is right for you or not. You should probably also do some more research into areas that you think you may go into, to ensure that both schools have it.

In my opinion, I would choose Dayton over Ohio State, because they have my intended major (Civil Engineering), I like the feel of mid-size private universities, and I like the Catholic atmosphere. This is my opinion, and yours may be very different, so look at everything from your point of view so that you make the right choice for you.

Good luck on your college decision!
