Can anyone give me suggestions as to which colleges I should apply to? I'm really stumped. I know this is pretty late in the game, but I'd appreciate it if you guys helped me anyways! Here's some info:

GPA 4.0 on 4.0 scale
Vice President of Key Club, Member of NHS, Environmental Club
ACT: 34
NO SAT/SAT subjects tests
Intented Major: Anthropology
I want a college that has a good study abroad program

I live in the midwest but wouldn't mine going to school any where in the US except AZ/New Mexico because of air conditions
I'd prefer to live in a city of a medium population, but like I said, I'm open to any suggestions. I just want to go to a good school that will give me a good education. I've applied to U of MI because they have a good anthro program, but I'm not sure where else would suit me. I'm afraid I'll end up at some community college because I have no clue where I want to go! Help please!

You are a good candidate for Chicago. Also, apply to the best public university in your state- you did not mention where you live. U Wisconsin Madison may suit you- smaller city, etc. U Rochester may be good.

Beloit. Taken from their website: Anthropology at Beloit College is almost as old as the study of anthropology in the United States. The College’s Logan Museum of Anthropology began in 1894, just two years after the first degree in anthropology was awarded in this country. Since that time, Beloit’s anthropology department has developed into one of the best and most highly regarded undergraduate programs in the world. Anthropology at Beloit combines classroom instruction in three of the four sub-fields—archaeology, biological, and cultural anthropology—with field research and the unique learning environment of the Logan Museum.
You might want to take 2 SATIIs to broaden your options. I'm somewhat astounded that no guidance person told you this. Luckily the U of Chicago doesn't require SATIIs, and that would be one of your best choices.

I'm assuming that you have taken the most rigorous course of study at your HS?

Some good programs, judging by what they have available for grad students, would probably include (not in any order) the University of Chicago, The University of Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, UCLA, UC San Diego, Harvard, UT Austin, Stanford, UIUC, Berkeley, U Pitt, U of Arizona. Of course, this leaves out LACs with good depts, since they don't have grad depts.

It also depends which of the various branches of anthropology interests you.

Thanks guys! My mom wont pay for the SAT Subject tests, but it's ok because I'm not really planning on applying to any ivies. I want to go into sociocultural anthropology. I didn't know U of Pitt had a good anthro program. They keep sending me stuff so maybe I'll apply...

It looks like Pitt has a great department, but you'd better check out their emphasis and see if it interests you. You should also apply NOW, because they have rolling admissions. I would think that you would have a very good shot at their honors college. You should apply to the University of Michigan right away if you are interested there, because it's also rolling admissions. I would think you would have a good shot at their honors college also. And apply to the U of C. The only way to be sure you won't get in is if you don't apply. Your ACT/GPA/rank put you in Chicago's ballpark.

You need to put in about an hour of research on the internet NOW to find good cultural anthro departments. Start with google, identify some schools with good grad depts, go to the school's web site and check out the department. I was able to identify the grad depts in about 5 minutes.

You sound awfully lackadaisical. They send you stuff so maybe you'll apply? Zillions of colleges send stuff to zillions of rising seniors. It's meaningless. you need to take charge of the process and not wait any longer. Go for it! Rah! Rah!! :)

hahaha I wouldn't say that I'm lackadasical, although I too enjoyed that. I've looked at many colleges' websites, but everyone seems to rave about their anthro department and I don't really know which programs ARE good. Thanks for the motivation though!
