I know someone already made a similar thread, but just listing out your guess doesn't necessarily help anyone. Instead, post what you think will appear on the test, and elaborate one what happened during that time. I think this will help a lot of people if everyone contributes a little.

I will do the Jacksonian Era
- Jackson claimed he was for the "common man," but his true motives were in do anything he can to make the lives of the Eastern elites worse
- Remember the nullification crisis (Force Bill) - Tariff of abomination 1828 (take note, this tariff was used for PROTECTION)
- He also disliked the Indians very much and wanted to move them out. In Worcester v. Gerogia, Marshall declared that it was against the law to remove indians off their respective landholdings, but Jackson refused to enforce it, knowing that Marshall couldnt do anything.

add more if you like but yea. you get the idea.

Ill help out with the election of 1828’s and Jacksonian Democracy.

Election of 1828 -
White man suffrage
Direct Election of pres.
campaigning- kissing babies; giving out buttons, Jackson + JQ. Adams talk ***** about each other
Spoils system/rotation of office.

Jackson-
Indian removal act; Worcester v. Georgia; “John Marshall has made his decision. He can now go and enforce it” , Trail of Tears
Tariff of Abominations/South Carolina Nullification/ Force Bill –> Compromise Tariff
Veto’d Bank –> creation of pet banks.
Specie Circular - all land must be brought with gold/silver –> economy plunges.

One thing I think is really interesting about Jackson is how he was pro-states rights and western interests while at the same time expanding the power of the federal government.

Second Great Awakening - Finney; Brimstone speeches, “burnt-over districts”, add moral side to slavery (can connect this to Garrison and Douglas)
Education - McGuffey Eclectic Readers, Horace Man + public schools, Websters blue-backed spellers + dictionary. Hudson River School (bring back to point about blacks)
Reform - Prisons, Mental Hospitals(D. Dix)
Women - Cult of domesticity/republican motherhood. Lowell Mills. Seneca Falls
Black rights - (can connect from SGA; Garrison Douglas, Back to Africa Movement I think, American colonization society, Grimke.
Transcendentalism –> Thoreau (influce MLK bring back to the point about black rights) Emerson
Utopian societies - Oneida, New Harmony, Brook Farm, Mormons

I think someone could write a kick ass essay about the impact of antebellum America on african americas. It would be a good read. lol.

An essay on antebellum would be nice, all the things you said can be included, which would be more than enough information to put the essay over a 7. And also, who was Charles G. Finney? Can you elaborate on him some more? I never really remember him.

Heres a random fact that I usually get confused with. Sherman Antitrust act was obviously for eliminating unfair trade practices (rebates), but was used to curb labor unions in the first years of it in play. Later, it became the clayton anti trust act, which was a revision of it. More effective. And the taft-Hartley act DOES NOT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING WITH WILLIAM TAFT. It was an act allowing for unions to bargain collectively.

Actually it was the Wagner Act (1935) that allowed unions to bargain collectively. The Taft Hartley Act (1947) limited the ever-increasing power of labor unions.

The taft-Hartley act had nothing to do with president Taft. There was a Senator Taft while truman was in office. Truman vetoed the bill but the veto was overriden by a 2/3vote.

@procrastinate Someone might have taken what you wrote about the Taft Hartley Act as truth and never checked back to see that it was wrong. I also noted that your information about the Jacksonian Era is full of opinion. Be sure to check your sources before you post your information, thanks.

People, the economy depressed, there’s bound to be something on new deal and great depression!
Alright so here we go.
First the great depression was caused by stock marker crash and underconsumption. People thought it would be a short recession, but it wasnt. People started to spend less, thus driving the country more into the depression.
Hooverville and Hoover Dam is all you have to know about Hoover. The Focus is on FDR.
He came up with 3 R- relief, recovery, and reform. He didn’t have an exact plan, but was willing to experiment. (NEW DEAL!!!)
The first challenge was banking crisis. Emergency Bank Relief act, glass-steagall act, and trust-in-security act were passed. Than, Federal home administration act followed.
Federal Emergency Relief act aided the poors, and Public Works Administration invested on projects (mostly building)
Agricultural Administration Act followed to help the farmers (establishing Agricultural Adjustmenr Administration.) Along with it came Federal Farm Loan Act.
National Industrial Recovery Act, Tennessee Valley Authority, and stuff followed.
I guess you all know about Civilian Conservation corps.
Emergency Relief Appropirations Act employeed unemplooyed and National Youth Administration gave part time job to students so that they can afford school.
Social security act was also passed with some struggle.

I think the DBQ will be on imperialism. Its just a hunch I have… But the best we can all do now is prepare for everything, which is clearly not possible.
