DBQ score invalidated?

When I took my apush exam back in May I started writing the dbq before the 15 minute planning period was over. An incident report had to be filed however multiple sources told me it shouldn't be a big deal or effect my scores in anyway. When the ap scores were finally released I received all of my scores except Apush. I figured that because the incident report was filed they would have to go back and review my exam. Just yesterday my score was finally posted and it said I got a 2. However I am certain that this is not the score I got. I have taken multiple AP exams and I have received 4's on all of them. I was even more confident on the apush material than I was on any of those other exams and I expected to get a 4 or a 5. I am almost certain that I received this score because they made my DBQ score invalid. Is it possible that they just took off all of my DBQ points for the exam? Should I contact the college board and ask? I feel like it is extremely unfair that they would take off all of my DBQ points just because I accidentally wrote 5 words before the writing period began.

I’m sorry, but I have some bad news for you. I highly doubt that something like that would happen. CB would’ve invalidated the entire test if they took the incident into account, not just one section. The incident wasn’t even that big of a deal, so there really was no point to invalidate the entire test, much less one section. It’s like when you pull out your phone or spill a drink on section I of the test. They don’t invaildate that one section, but either the whole thing or not at all. Maybe writting a few words down early and getting caught shook you up a little, causing you to lose focus. Maybe you weren’t fully prepared. If you don’t know, of course we don’t know. Regardless, the odds are most likely you earned that score, despite the incident.

If you really think your score was better than a 2, you can order a rescore. There is also a probabilty that they mismatched your DBQs or something. I am not saying that rescoring or mismatched DBQS will not work in your favor at all, but don’t get your hopes up.

Any time a student score is affected by an incident report, the student will be contact first and many times will be offered several options. As darksaber21 said, just “docking” some parts of the exam without contacting the student is not one of those options.

Get your exam rescored. It is possible that they did not factor your DBQ into your score but unlikely.
