Hello.
I am planning to apply to Georgetown University School or Foreign Service in either IR or PoliSci.
But since George is pretty darn hard to get in, I’m also looking at the programs at George Washington and American as well. I think these are great schools with a little bit of safety features in them.
OK. Here’s the deal. I want to hear people’s opinions on these programs. Because, when you talk about Social Science, it’s all about DC.

When you write, please consider following criteria:

Program Quality

Prestige

Value (or school’s Financial capability)

Job Opportunity (internship included)

School Environment

Girls (JK…You can talk about it if you really think it matters)

Tada!
Feel free to express your knowledge about this topic and I hope this thread helps out others too!

(Please don’t leave posts totally based on random BS, we don’t want to confuse people by feeding them junk info, do we?)

Georgetown
1. Best IR program in the nation, hands down. The Poli Sci program is not as good.
2. Extremely prestigious for IR
3. Expensive, but then again so are all the other DC schools
4. Probably better for continuing education and gaining access to academia. I would say Georgetown isn't as career oriented as the others.
5. Ivy league caliber. Extremely competitive, but the students like to have fun. Traditional gothic architecture.
6. Hard to get in to, but well worth it.

GW
1. Great school for IR (Elliot School for International Affairs) Entire building and college devoted to major. Poli Sci is also extremely good.
2. Graduating from the Elliot School carries alot of prestige. It has a great reputation in DC and with jobs related to IR.
3. Even more expensive than Georgetown. It's up to $50 grand this year.
4. Great internship opportunities. The state department is right across the street for the Elliot building.
5. Very pre-professional environment. Everyone knows where they want to be in 10 years, and they all work to accomplish that. Students also like to party. Thurston Hall, the main freshman dorm, is known as one of the most sexually active dorms in the U.S. There's always a party going on in it. Foggy Bottom is a great area, very urban.
6. Good girl to guy ration, it's about 60/40. Great for guys like myself. I will be attending GW this fall.

American
1. Once again, another quality IR program. SIS is well known, although I would say it doesn't carry as much prestige as Georgetown or GW.
2. Not as much prestige as the other two schools
3. I hear they give out good financial aid packages and scholarships. Better than GW and Georgetown.
4. It's in DC, so internships are everywhere. Probably just under GW in job opportunities.
5. The environment is less urban than GW and Georgetown. Campus isn't very pretty either.
6. American is good, just not as good as the other two.

Overall, I'd rank the three like you see them, 1. Georgetown 2. GW 3. American
