Okay, I've heard of people getting screwed using limewire, and downloading torrents. Can u get canned if u use the university hub on DC++?

anyone? ?

no u wont get canned because u are downloading among cornell students which is not outside of the network.

btw how do u get dc++?

download it here:
http://www.soft32.com/Download/Free/DC/4-15504-1.html

Instructions are here:

any idea how to use it on a mac? My windows partition is almost full.

DC++ is pretty safe for cornell, fellow cornellians usually don't screw you up

bumpety bump

shakespeer works perfectly on a mac, and really people got canned for BT?? Cornell actually did that? I really need BT for all my music downloads.

aren't there 16 cornell students being sued by the R.I.A.A. right now for using dc ++? it was in the daily sun last week some time.

They used limewire because they were stupid

Just use google. You don't have to share or download anything...so there's little risk. All the mp3's and movies you want are probably online. Just search for an article on how to download mp3's off google, and they'll tell you how to do it.

...It does count against you're downloading limit though, but 5 gb a month is a lot.

I heard that Cornell actually encourages (not out loud, but in their heads) the use of DC++. When people go outside the network (torrents, limewire, etc.) the music industry and other legal organizations can find out and they get mad at Cornell. When it's inside the network, students can get all the files they need without getting Cornell in trouble.

ok this article (http://www.collegeotr.com/cornell_university/how_to_do_illegal_stuff_at_cu_copyright_infringement_2126) says BT is less risky than P2Ps like Limewares, so I hope I m ok.. and I m using Chinese torrents, hopefully the "bad" guys out there aren't monitoring these torrents.

so use DC++ all you want and you won't get caught and fined big time like those 16 students mentioned in The Sun?

just dont torrent anything from NBC...

dc++ is person to person on campus...

can anyone help me with the program settings... ive tried following those instructinos but it won't connect to the cornell network... an answer here or a pm would be great... sorry didnt mean to thread jack this is just buggin the crap outa me and this thread was related soo... yea.. please help

i couldn't get mine to work so I had to set it to passive. and now....horrah
