DD's best friend wants to transfer this spring --possibly even to UA: any advice?

Krazy has a high school best friend that went through the same high school honors program she did. Great grades, top 6% of his class, etc.

He just started college last week at Univ of New Hampshire. After just starting, her friend says the classes are too easy with not a very good “honors” program (he’s pre med). He now wants to transfer elsewhere, possibly even to ua since it is such a good fit for Krazy. He also interested in a couple of other schools – and would like to transfer if he can this spring.

How would he go about it . . .would he be eligible for any scholarships? any advice?

My heart hurts for him. . . Krazy is loving college at UA whereas her best friend’s college choice seems to be not a good fit.

Here’s the information regarding transfers

And for scholarships

If I were this young man, I would consider waiting to make the switch. Today, the classes seem easy. But he is a week or two into school. Things can change once the semester really kicks in. My son would admit that his first year at UA was not too taxing. Now, he is taking 400-level classes in one of his majors, and he really needs to spend a lot of time working on the material.

I would suggest that this young man go see an advisor about his major, what research opportunities are available and what other things on campus could interest him. I have friends who attended UNH and loved it. It’s a great school in a great location. Speaking with an advisor will give him a chance to express his concerns. There may be some wonderful opportunities at the school that he has no knowledge of.

I would contact Carolyn Rogers and ask about scholarships.

Typically, a transfer student doesn’t have the same great scholarship opportunities as an incoming freshmen. :frowning: I know it seems crazy that a student who has barely started college can lose scholarship opportunities, but that is probably the case.

I think the link above is for community college transfer students…but I could be wrong.
