Hello all! I am hoping to transfer to UA for Summer 2011. I will be in junior standing (assuming most of my courses transfer) when I begin at UA.

Firstly, is financial aid available for summer sessions?

Secondly, assuming I have at least 24 credit hours, over a 2.0 college GPA, and apply the week the 2011 applications come online, am I basically guaranteed admission? Considering I won’t be required to send high school transcripts or ACT score, I can’t imagine what else they could judge me on?

Also, if I don’t meet the requirements of the Honors College when I apply, can I apply later when I get my GPA up?

And finally, does UA provide pretty good need-based financial aid for those of us that don’t qualify for merit scholarships?

Thank you all! I’m an instate student (but currently going to an OOS college) and I had never considered Bama before. I’m taking a campus tour tomorrow and really excited!!!

I don’t know about guaranteed admissions for transfer students. I would think you might want to try to have higher than a 2.0 GPA when you transfer in to better your chances. (Ask tomorrow on your tour, or speak to an admissions counselor.)

You can apply later for the HOnors College, but the later you get in, the harder it would be to complete the req’ts.

Re: Financial aid. What is your EFC? That will largely determine what aid you’d qualify for.

Good luck on your campus tour. Let us know how it goes. :)

(Why are you going to an OOS college now? Is that a junior college or a 4 year? How much are you paying to go there? If you’re going OOS to a junior college, why not just go instate and save the money??)

I’m currently attending a private 4-year college. At the time it was a good fit academically, but recently my interests changed and don’t fit the school very well anymore. My financial aid was great this past year, but this year not so much. My parents will probably be able to get me through this year, but not the year after. And plus the less loans I have the better. I’m considering even transferring for the Spring, but I’m a little worried about getting on-campus housing at that point in the game.

My EFC is very low…in previous years I believe I only had to pay about $3,000 or less out of pocket each year.

And thanks! This will be my first trip to Tuscaloosa which is funny since I only live an hour away! Any hot spots on campus or in town I should check out? I have a two hour break between my admissions session and campus tour.

During your 2 hour break…

Head over to the Honors College in Nott Hall (second floor).

Grab something to eat at The Food Court in The Ferguson Student Center.

IF you have time, travel west on University Blvd (just past the stadium) and you’ll come upon The Strip. Lots of fun off-campus places to eat there.

Tomorrow there will be a Bama Bound, so there will be a lot of incoming Freshmen on campus.

Will you be coming to campus from McFarland Blvd? There are a lot of places to eat there, too.

What is your major?

Oh awesome thanks so much!

And yes I’ll be coming onto McFarland so I’ll definitely check that out.

My major is Biology with Pre-Vet concentration.

Well, see if you can meet with…
Mr. Chris Hutt, Pre-Health Professions Advisor, College of Arts and sciences Room 301 Lloyd Hall (205) 348-5902

He might be speaking at Bama Bound at some point, but if you were to try calling him at 8 am tomorrow, you might be able to set up a meeting time.

Or send an email tonight and see if you get a response

lcculpep,

My D will also be a biology major / pre-vet. Overall you’ll follow a pre-med plan and Chris Hutt is indeed very helpful. Be SURE to visit the Shelby science complex. You’ll be amazed at the facilities.

Good luck to you!

How did your visit go?
