UC Merced doesn’t have a med school-- they have a very small (less than 10 student) Prime program with the UC Davis school of medicine.

Frankly, I would not apply in CA at all, apply in Midwest. We have whole tons of CA applying in Midwest and getting accepted in very high numbers. But research which ones are accepting high number of OOS. If Wright state is the one, i woudl add it also to the list. It really is up to your D. though, where she wants to be.

For CA applicants, UC schools are still probably the cheapest schools (considering most/all? of the cheaper med schools are very OOS unfriendly and merit scholarships to privates are extremely limited). Yes, they are very difficult to get into for CA applicants, but still worth applying to for financial reasons-- especially as this poster has targeted only some of the UC’s.

Exactly, CA schools are not really easy to get into even with CA resident, because there are too many applicants. A S of friend he had 3.8 gpa and 36 MCAT, Berkeley, was shut out of all CA schools and went to Case Western. As I said, we are applying CA public just for the sake of applying.

Wright State was on the list but they only take 9% OOS. We are looking at publics that take large % of OOS.

This

<a href=“News | Newsroom”>News | Newsroom;

Says UC Merced took 17 med school students and the first two years are at Davis. Either way, we think Davis is the only hope we have for DD.

Come to think of it, most OOS applicants for public schools, 17 accepted matriculation is just about the right number.

WOWM I don’t see any relief for any med schools, most of them had sub 10 acceptance, Tulane and GWU included. So my DD has to cast a wider net and include DO schools.

As stated before, we did not expect her to apply for Med schools. She changed her mind with just less than 1.5 years left in college. Last spring, we thought she was spear headed for Peace Corp…and then Grad School and had no Med School in her horizon.

Wake Forest? St. Louis U?

Kat

Thanks Kat,

Wake Forest, like GWU, has about 3% acceptance rate, but at a higher stats requirement
St. Louis is under consideration. I gave the list for DD to consider, in that there are about 20 schools not listed in the above published list, I asked her to read through each school’s program and choose accordingly. The above list is just a preliminary, we still have time to refine the list.

Would apply to 20 MD schools and 5 DO schools enough for DD or we should cut down to total of 20 schools? Would that be too burden some? Consider she is still taking full load of 4th year college classes.

How do I find out the DO schools that require DO shadowing and recommendations?

Perhaps a research gap year? She could have a better GPA, stronger app, more choices, and a much easier time doing interviews.

She is taking a gap year after graduation this coming June. However much work has to be completed now because the schools are accepting apps in June.

She had already took a gap quarter to study Mcat.

^well then there’s no conflict with her school work, right? Getting prepared for the primary submission is not that bad. She should already have LORs and PS. The real work comes this summer.

I searched on the US News and found the following schools are not in the LizzyM or Princeton Review. Anyone knows about them?

Rowan NJ
Rockey Vista, CO
Lincoln TN
Florida International FL
Pacific Northwest

Rocky Vista is a DO school in Colorado located SE of Denver in Parker, CO (about half way between Denver and Castle Rock). It’s a brand new school that opened in 2008.

RVUCOM is the first and only for-profit accredited medical school in the US.

http://www.rockyvistauniversity.org

RVUCOM

~~~
All of the schools you’ve listed are newer med schools. The LizzyM spreadsheet uses really old data (2007? 2009?) so that’s probably why they’re not on it.
Rowan (Cooper Medical)–opened 2008
Rocky Vista–opened 2008
Lincoln --opened 2007
Pacific NW-opened 2011
Florida International --opened 2006
Ok, let me clarify, the following new schools are not all MD schools some are DO schools some are not even in studentdoc stats.
NYIT -DO not in studentdoc
Rowan -MD not in studentdoc
Lincoln Memorial -DO
Florida International -MD in student doc
Pacific Northwest -DO
Oakland Beaumont -MD in studentdoc
Vtech -MD in studentdoc
Any more new MD or DO schools? The only MD schools is not in studentdoc is the Rowan.
Try checking this list:
<a href=“List of medical schools in the United States - Wikipedia”>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_medical_schools_in_the_US
~~~~

My version of the LizzyM spreadsheet has Rowan listed as new school with no data.

The SDN allopathic school specific forum does have a Rowan thread. Rowan is called by its official SOM title: Cooper Medical School

NYIT is on the LizzyM spreadsheet AND has its own thread in the osteopathic school specific forum.

Thanks WOWM, you are the best.

But where can I update my LizzyM?

There are apparently two student doc networks

One is
http://www.studentdoc.com/phpBB2/
The other
http://www.studentdoctor.net/
