good EC's/letters of rec/life story, etc...

Any advice on my chances or schools I should look at applying to is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Probably a very good chance at some DO schools. as for MD schools outside of Texas, chances may be lowish.

Assuming that you will apply to all TX MD schools, if you apply early, you may get some interviews and maybe an acceptance since your GPAs are high and you are a URM.

are you male?

I think that your 8 in BS could be an issue for MD schools, but TX MD schools seem to be easier to get info.

are you attending UT-austin?

Thanks for the reply.
I am a male who graduated from a private university in Texas. I am submitting my primary and secondary apps to all TX MD schools tomorrow and around 8 out of state DO schools.

Your GPA will help. How are TX MD URM numbers?

I was unaware I could find those specific numbers anywhere but would love to see them! Haha

I’ve been told I should be very competitive at almost all DO schools, however the Texas MD schools are what I’m worried about even having a chance at…

You may want to post on SDN “What are my chances” forum and ask for adcom advice. There are several adcoms who will give advice and others who may be more familiar with the Texas schools and URM chances.

Texas has several programs to identify underprivileged out of high school like JAMP and recruiting them directly for BS/MD. Not sure if they provide much weightage when they apply after BS.

OP has a good shot at one or two schools if they do consider URM status though. There are at least 3 programs at a 65-66 score and DO school at 63.

Thanks, I forgot about the lizzy score. Is it (gpa x 10) + MCAT? So I would have ~65?

I think the current formula subtracts a point.
I think another 2-3 points in MCAT would have made your life easier.

Does the LizzyM score ADD points for URMs?

I don’t believe they do much with race, rec letters, interviews etc since GPA and MCAT are the only definable attributes across board that the lady who works on it has access to. Essentially, the spreadsheet is providing an indicator based on the different schools’ averages for MCAT breakdown, different GPAs,etc. You could have a score that is very competitive at a school but might not meet the basic averages listed like a minimum of 8 or 9 in every section as an example.

Thanks for the input. I know the 10-90th percentile of accepted students at Texas A&M, UTMB in Galveston, Texas Tech El Paso, Texas Tech Lubbock, and UT San Antonio begin at MCATs of 26 (though #'s obviously change year to year), so I guess it’s a toss up on the outcome. Hoping my GPA’s and being Hispanic factor into my chances.

If you can raise MCAT to around 30, you will be in a more comfortable position to get in a MD school. Texas minimum is just a minimum, you might be screened out by a computer.
