I got admitted and have committed to attend University of Washington Seattle this coming fall. My family is not well off and needs financial aid for me to attend uw. I was awarded financial aid and was going to discuss more with my parents on which loans and stuff to accept. However the deadline for accepting the financial aid passed and I got no emails or notifications telling me there was a deadline. I’m panicking right now because without any financial aid I cant go to college. I’m trying to contact the financial advisor right now but the phone line is busy…any help or advice???
Take this as a lesson that in college it is you who are the one responsible to check on things and find out what is due. No hand holding.
Now, of course you should accept any gift aid What is to discuss about that? I hope you can still get that
You should also accept work/study. You are not obligated but it puts you first in line for w/s supported positions.
Loans and any Pell grant you are entitled to from the federal govt and they are not going away, you can still get that. But you need to let them know so they can process that.

What exactly was in the FA pkg?
Was there any “free money”? If so, did you immediately accept THOSE?
On the school’s portal, FA usually looks something like:
$XXXXX Grant …Accept…Decline
$XXXXX scholarship…Accept …Decline
$XXXX unsub loan…Accept …Decline
$XXXX sub loan…Accept…Decline
$XXXX work-study…Accept…Decline
So, if you got any grants or scholarships, did you click on Accept for those? (If not, why now??)
The deadline to accept may also have something to do with the processing time your school needs to make sure your funds are disbursed in a timely fashion before your payment is due. Make sure you follow up with your school’s aid office as soon as to can to determine if that was a hard deadline or if the funds can be accepted at a later point, and you might just be at risk for some disbursement delays.
Call the school. They are the ones who can answer your question best.
If the deadline passed without reminders, how did you discover the deadline?
I’m confused…I though scholarships and grants were automatically “accepted” (ie you don’t have to do anything). Also, can’t stafford loans be requested at any time during the academic year (deadline being around the end of the school yr) for any school?
I also thought that scholarships ( once you do the MPN) and grants were automatically " accepted." At my daughter’s school there is only a choice to " decline" or “reduce” an award. There is nothing to " accept." I guess it depends on the school. OP - I agree you need to call the school and ask this question.
Scholarships don’t require a MPN…loans do. Are you saying that once a student does the MPN for loans, their scholarships are automatically accepted?
Some schools may not require “acceptance” for “free money” (scholarships or grants). My kids’ school did require acceptance for scholarships.
