William Shain is leaving for Bowdoin.

Two different articles. Last one i read said he starts at Bowdoin July 1.

He's leaving Vandy tho.

He has done a great job.

I enthusiastically agree - he has a fine staff, admissions runs smoothly and in a very applicant-friendly manner, and Vandy's selectivity has gone up and up in recent years. I'm sure he'll be missed!

"William Shain, dean of undergraduate admissions, has accepted the position of dean of admissions at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. He will depart Vanderbilt at the end of the current academic year. Since Shain arrived at the university in 1998, the number of applications received annually has grown by more than 50 percent, the quality and diversity of the entering class has increased, and Vanderbilts appeal has extended into new geographic and demographic areas. Associate Dean of Undergraduate Admissions John Gaines will serve as interim dean following Shains departure. "

We too had a great experience with Dean Shain and wish him the best of luck in his next endeavor.

do you guys know who is replacing him?

Yo Bridie..hello and hope you are still enjoying Nashville visits.

Our family LOVED Shain..favorite of all the Admissions Directors we met..so unpretentious and has done a great job making a big impact on Vandy undergrad. But Bowdoin was just as a coincidence my Son's favorite LAC, and Shain's personality will be a good fit for them. Sorry he is leaving Nashville. Shain put together a warm and welcoming staff in Nashville, and I am sure that legacy will keep carrying Vandy admissions moving forward.

We also were very impressed with William Shain when visiting Vandy with both children. I believe he had done a tremendous job with the admissions office and I hope his replacement can handle the job as well.

I fell in love with Vanderbilt for both children, but somehow neither ended up there. To bad I couldn't go back to school!!
