I am a junior in High School, and in November (of this year) I will be applying to Tulane. I am set on Tulane. I am going to apply for the DHS and I was wondering if anyone else has gotten it and how? What type of project did you do?
@acollegeinquirer Why November? Applications usually open on Aug 1. In the past those that apply EA or ED to Tulane often hear back quickly. If you are set on Tulane I suggest that you work on your essays this summer and apply as soon as possible in the fall. Is there something specific about Tulane that you are interested in?
November is the deadline for early action so I guess I will be applying before then, but at least BY then. I visited Tulane and I love it. The latin american studies is prestigious and I’m interested in their study abroad. I also am interested in the Altman program, which is what I think I want to do.
good luck @acollegeinquirer it sounds like you have a good plan. Continue to show interest, contact your admissions rep so they are familiar with your name. Apply early and, if admissions continues as it has in the past, they might let you know quickly.
@acollegeinquirer check out Jeff Shiffman’s blog about Dean’s Honors:

Thank you, this was really helpful.
In year’s past, TU has done early action on a semi-rolling basis. So if you are a strong candidate and apply in advance of the deadline, you could hear back very early, which can be really helpful.
My high stat kid applied mid-October and got accepted (with a big merit scholarship) first week of November. DHS and PTA schollies, though, don’t get decided until mid-February.
My S applied at the end of October and had his decision with the top scholarship on Nov. 8. My D in 2012 had the same experience. While admission is not exactly rolling, it is sometimes close. My best advice is not to pester admissions, but to send occasional emails expressing your interest, no matter where you are applying.
The year my son applied he finished his application at the end of August and got his admit adn merti award middle of October. he applied SCEA, which is not an option anymore.

Educate me a bit if you would, sorry for my ignorance:
If my S18 applies EA, for example in August or September and gets good news by November, what is the protocol if he wants to wait to hear about PT or DHS awards? In other words, they understand even though he has a high interest, and Tulane is the preferred school, the student will want to wait until to make a decision based on whether they receive one of the competitive awards. Hope that makes sense.
EA is not binding so he could wait until he hears about those scholarships before making a decision, and weighing his options. If he gets a high merit award with his acceptance then he is probably in contention for PT or DHS. Be sure he shows A LOT of interest and kills his Why Tulane essay.
Thanks, I think I was confusing ED with EA to some degree, your explanation makes sense.
Hey I won it this year and I can give you the link if you’d be interested!
congrats @chantheman98
It seems to me that most people do Videos today? Accurate?
@DavidPuddy Yeah most people do but mine wasn’t. I think mine was really unique and that’s why I got it.
Thanks for the reply @chantheman98 . So you mailed/shipped your project? My Son’s “way too early idea” is physical, does not lend itself to vide recording.
DD, who got DHS, did some amazing artwork pieces (paintings), and tied them together with an essay. She basically used her artwork to illustrate an essay. These were full size paintings, not sketches in “the box.”
@Bigmacattack , and so you sent these to Tulane?
DD sent large prints and a drive or disc with hi-res photos, not the actual paintings themselves.
yes please!
