Sorry for this stupid question. What exactly is the Dean's List? What is it good for? Do students get some notification if they are on this list?

Dean's List is pretty much like honor roll but on the college level. My sister got on it the first semester at Bucknell University, and they'll send a letter home letting you know. Sometimes the local newspaper might feature your name also.

At Pitt they recognized Dean's List the first time I made it, with a certificate. I didn't get a certificate other times I made the list. Requirements to make it is a 3.50 semester QPA along with no grades below C and no W, I, etc. grades.

Thanks! My son qualifies for that, but we got no notice of his making Dean's List yet. Heck, Pitt doesn't even send paper grades anymore...you just have to check online!

Is a QPA like a GPA??

Yeah QPA is equiv to GPA...Pitt just likes to call it a quality point average rather than a grade point average...go figure...
