Okay, so I know my GPA qualified me for the dean's list, but is there any sort of letter I'm supposed to get? or any "official" marking on my transcript? I know it must varry by school but I'm just curious how that works in general. Is it just some thing you know you did or is there some official notification?

It's on the transcripts here at UCDavis.

At Wake there's a mark on our transcripts and we get a card in the mail congratulating us.

my school sends out certificates and I believe it's on our transcript

We have something called "Provost's Honors" here at UCSD. It's per quarter with GPA >/= 3.5

Every three consecutive qtrs of that gives u a certificate.

We simply have it on our transcripts here at W&L - both Deans List and Honor Roll

It is noted on our transcripts.

We have three 'Dean's Lists':
Dean's List: 3.5+
Second-Honors: 3.7+
Highest-Honors: 3.9+

Dean's list at my school is 3.6+, and is noted on the transcript.

Dean's List is 3.5 or higher
Dean's Scholar is of course 4.0
These are both noted on the transcript. Certificates are avaliable in PDF format. You have to print them out yourself.

entropy... I love that... "Certificates are avaliable in PDF format. You have to print them out yourself."
It reminds me of the days when you got those dumb certificates online for completing dumb stuff (altough in your case, it is not dumb). But I guess the general impression that the administration got was that kids were just throwing away their letters and if they actually wanted them, they can do it themselves.

yall my school sends out little thingys. I didn't make it last term due to the C I got, but oh well. As they say in France, c'est la life.

I think my school says that you make it if you get a 3.5 with no grade lower than a B or somehting like that..>i forget exactly.

If you make Dean's List (3.5+) or Presidents List (4.0) at my school you get a letter and your name on a poster in the dean's office, as well as having it noted on your transcript.

Same as mine :) (But I can't find anything on my website about president's list and Dean's is 3.4)

poster in the Dean's office? Has anyone seen that poster on his/her wall? Sounds like BS... lol.

... i'm getting a mental picture of a guy in a suit and tie bustin out the colored markers and poster board (is that only 1 word?) and writing everyone's name all nice like =P

At most schools they usually have an actual printout of list of all the names that made the deans list for the semester and its posted outside in the hallways.

Yes, it's outside of the Dean's actually office!! Most are in the hall outside of the Dean's office (I'm refering to the suit of offices that houses the Dean and his suport staff), but some of them are inside the complex, generally by the secrataries. My school has them printed, and they're generally up by mid-term of the following semester.

Wow, honors in my school seem a lot simpler than at others, we have Dean's List at 3.4 and Honor Roll at 3.7 - but our professors are really tough so even a 3.4 is hard to get and thus an achievement. Both lists are printed and put up outside the main campus building that houses the President, Dean, etc. and is right in the middle of the most important class buildings so everyone passes it all the time.

How hard is it to get dean's list?

Ryu, it depends on how hard it is for you to get the qualifying GPA. It's something that differs from school to school and student to student.

yea, as borgin said, difficulty of getting on Dean's List varies greatly from school to school
