Dean's List?

I got a certificate in the mail today saying I made the Dean's Honor List for my CC.

What exactly does that mean? How does it help me, and how do I use it to my advantage?

My GPA was 3.89. Is there somewhere on your transfer application to mention it?

You just mention it on your application, but I would assume most people on this forum are on the Dean’s list as most CCC’s only require around a 3.3gpa to be on it.

do you go to any of the san mateo colleges by any chance?

Me?

No I go to CCSF, but I might be taking a class at Skyline next semester which is part of the CSM network of colleges. I have a few friends that go to CSM and Skyline.

do they send you a letter saying you are on the dean’s list?

No you don’t mention it on your application. UCs know that you are deans list if you are above 3.5 anyway so its really not something to fret over. Most UC applicants will have at least one semester when they have deans list.

It says it on your transcript below the semester. At Pierce College, if you have 3 consecutive Deans Honor List, then you make Presidents Honors List.

SimonPhase, why would you not mention it? I mentioned it under academic awards. They ask for this on the application, so why would you leave it off? It just doesn’t make sense…

^ agreed.
definitely mention it in the ‘awards’ section.

If you don’t have any other awards then i guess you can mention it but its just that there are so many people applying with gpas of 3.8+ so its not like its a big achievement because all the other top applicants have it. You want to list something that sets you apart from the rest.

Nonetheless, it is an achievement and it definitely wouldn’t hurt your application to list it.

jeez, just list it and move on.

and what CCs require a 3.3? PCC requires a 3.7.

I listed it because I had nothing else :(

I am excited to be on the Deans list…and I am going to put it on there! I have it on my refridge! I even sent a picture of it to my mom. haha. I work hard for my grades…I will be sure to put it on my application. I would put it in bold if I could. ahahaha.

I was super excited to be on the Dean’s List too. I busted my ass all year. I failed out of high school with a 0.68 GPA in 1998. Now I am a Deans List Honor Student. I am saving all my certificates and I am going to frame them all when I graduate.

My CCC only requires a 3.30. I should also note my friends over at SF Sate it only requires a 3.25 for the deans list.

I think it’s the top 15%, at my school it’s a 3.5, I’ve been on it 3 straight semesters.
