momma-three - I don’t know ANY full pay parents who begrudge students who need financial aid and receive it. You make us all out to be villians. I can’t even figure out which full pay parents who have posted on this thread have indicated they begrudge need students. This is silly. We all need to stop generalizing.

Scotch, neat.

single malt please

Sorry. Today is Bourbon day. Woodford Reserve.

(but I can make an exception-- if you can prove your need )

“I can’t even figure out which full pay parents who have posted on this thread have indicated they begrudge need students.”

see post 423.

But she hasn’t been here in a while, so I agree, lets move on.

Why don’t we just meet in Tuscany for wine.

jym…Must be a full payer to drink Woodford Reserve :)

Great idea, BU and BC!! Can we fly over in your private jet?

"single malt please "

sorry, no single malt for me, till after 2016. :)

qdogpa-

Got the military discount :)

"Great idea, BU and BC!! Can we fly over in your private jet? "

I take it Megabus doesnt go there?

Sure and you can all stay at my villa!

You are so generous, BUandBC.

Will you pay for the rest of my younger kids college tuition too? Maybe I should wait til we are on the second barrel of wine before I ask that

I’m not that generous!

momma three - I have a pretty thick skin and you have offended me. you should reread your posts. you lump a bunch of people together and make sweeping critical generalizations about them. I bet your kids are in school with great people from ALL economic backgrounds. Some of the wealthiest are the most generous. I am done with this thread too.

BU and BC-
His tuition is actually… zero (yay for merit aid). But you can pay the other incidentals- they really arent all that much. I promise.

Brooklynborndad…

sorry for the delayed response…the $27,600 for a family of 4 is what we were allowed in the FAFSA formula. It apparently hasn’t been updated since the early '60’s. My D attends a state university, we knew she would not qualify for FA but filling out the FAFSA was a requirement for her to be considered for merit aid.

"the $27,600 for a family of 4 is what we were allowed in the FAFSA formula.

we are not a full pay family, and our income minus EFC came to rather more than that.

Since we are looking to increase our income, I have played with formula to insure that adding income does not leave us worse off.

I am therefore puzzled how you got the above result, unless it was due to substantial savings. In which case, I think the idea is you use those, not that you live on 27k.

thats the kind of thinking that gets a bad reaction around here. Especially from the full pays. “Lets not work/earn more money b/c then we’ll get less aid”. Well, um… yes, you will need less. Crazy. Earn money and pay your bills. Makes sense to me.

Barkeep, pour me a double, and one for texasmom while you’re at it

Brooklynborndad…

Our income minus our EFC comes to more that $27,600 as well. But subtract taxes, the allowable for retirement (based on the oldest person in the house), and medical and it all works out pretty close. We have a type 1 diabetic child and our expenses are about $1,000 a month for his medication so we are allowed to account for it. We don’t have huge savings - our downfall was paying off our mortgage before our kids reached college age.
