I've been really involved with the debate team for all of high school, and am already having a hard time summarizing my involvement into only 150 characters. Am I supposed to put my awards in the Activities section, too? For example, I placed as a top speaker at Harvard's tournament. Where should I put this on my app? I would like to put it in honors since it is an "academic" award and debate is an "academic" activity. Can I do this?

I’m having the same problem, not really sure what to do. 150 characters is not enough when you go to 10+ tournaments a year

I’m in the same position and am considering attaching an additional information sheet detailing my involvement and listing my awards. That’s what some of my friends did last year.

I think I’m going to put them in additional information too! What events do you guys do? Also, do you think I can put awards in the Honors section of the app?

I missed the additional information section, I’ll look for that. And parliamentary debate and public forum, you?

I do public forum. If anyone knows if it is appropriate to put debate awards in honors let me know.

Is there an actual “additional information” section on the common app or would I have to send in something extra?

Yes, it’s in the writing section.

Thank you!

Yeah it’s so hard to summarize everything with that scanty word limit they give you :

I’ve decided the additional information section seems like the best place unless I hear otherwise
