Why don't elite boarding schools actively participate in debate Policy, Lincoln-Douglas, and Public Forum?

I saw the list of participating schools in the National Forensic League (NFL), but I could only find Milton Academy.

I can easily imagine how well the students at prep schools would do in NFL, but I was surprised that only one school was eligible for NFL.

Do you know why boarding schools dont participate in state and national level leagues?

Thanks in advance!

Most boarding schools have debate teams. They participate in a different league called the Debating Association of New England Independent Schools. I believe, someone may correct me though, they participate in parliamentary and Lincoln-Douglas formats. They do compete on a higher level. I know Andover sent at least one student to a world championship several years ago.

exeter has a debate team, as well as groton.

The funster's recollection is that Hotchkiss has a particularly strong debating team year in and year out.

Many boarding schools have a debate club. Go to TABS: Top College-Prep Independent Boarding Schools Directory and do an advanced search....select extracurriculars, and choose debate. More than 100 schools. Now, maybe they are in different leagues, as sugarkim noted above, but many debate teams do exist.

sugerkim, I'm pretty sure Andover sent a girl this year to Worlds in Germany.

Which boarding schools have the best debate teams?

Thanks prettyckitty. I didn't realize we sent kids this past year. Here are a couple articles from the Phillipian about them - Clay and Li ?09 Headed To World Debate in Germany | News | The Phillipian and Uppers Clay and Li Represent PA, USA at Debate Championships | News | The Phillipian. I remember we also sent a girl to South Africa a couple years ago.

Hotchkiss has an extraordinarily strong debate team, winning a majority of DANEIS tournaments and sending at least two students to Worlds and three to Internationals every year, who tend to place very well.

Actually, the US's delegation to world's this year had quite a few elite boarding school students on it. Andover's really revamping debate for next year -- trying to participate in more Public Forum-type events, dabbling in interpretive storytelling, etc. -- as well as the usual Parli and Oregon-style debates. And yes, Hotchkiss is fabulous at debate.

how is lawrenceville's debate team

yeah, by the way what is the biggest debate competition ? I hear there is a big one in new york or something ? And MUN ?
