Debate Programs.

Which boarding schools have the best debate teams? I'd love to be on a debate team, even though I have no previous experience. It seems like it would be a lot of fun.

Thank you.

I think Cozmo mentioned something about Exeter having a good debate program...hmm..sorry if im no help!

Check out this article on Exeter's debate team: http://www.exeter.edu/news_and_events/news_events_1983.aspx

Milton Academy has the no. 1 Speech team in the country, and has for 9 of the past 10 years.

Andover's is the oldest and best endowed of all debate programs in New England.

We have a decent debate program... I mean, it could be worse, could be better. It varies year to year, or maybe over longer periods than that. It can be a little cyclical based upon leadership and participation. It's quite lively, though. We have a great advisor and debate coach who really add to the program.

If you have no debate experience, I don't know why you should be worrying so much about which team is "best" since you should be thinking about you.... what good does prestige do you? If you were on a superstar team, you might be shoved to the back... who knows.

I CAN say that this past year, we went to virtually every single DANEIS debate (the league all these schools are in). So you will have a lot of opportunity to debate. As a novice especially, you will be given a lot of opportunity to participate, if only for the fact that you need to have two novice teams for every one advanced team... : )

not at all unless they compete only with boarding schools and dosn't compete with the "rest" of the nation

but anyway debate is what matters and policy debate is where it's at ;-) and too my knowledge no boarding schools compete in policy debate (probably only LD debate) and if they do no one competes successfully on the national circuit.

We all compete in DANEIS which is primarily Parliamentary and Oregon. And also the recruiting hot-spot for the Ivy League...
