Debate/Forensics/NFL

Yeah I'm going to Harvard in Varsity LD...went 3-3 last year in Varsity LD, it was my first year in LD anyway.
And its Feb 18-20. What school do you go to pyroman?

i go to chattahoochee

Is it really that easy? The tournaments run by the NJ Forensics League require an adult supervisor, according to the President. I could definitely get a couple friends to get a hotel and go somewhere by train for a couple days...

Policy debate = only real debate. Only hardcore people do it. And we are the hottest debaters.

agreed haha...but unfortunately some schools/states lack policy.

Yea, but that just makes the people that still do policy that much more hardcore!

policy owz, it turns you jaded and replaces empathy with bodcount...what more can u want?

lol...nuclear war, duh.

You see, over here in good ol' Texas we do UIL Debate. My high school was just built last year, so the band is the only EC invested in (****ed me off to, knowing that the majority of those in band are kind of wealthy anyway) right now. Anyways, before I start ranting, I'll just say that we will officially have Debate next year. For the competitions this spring, I decided to prepare of my own accord. The teacher responsible for coaching it was kind of doubtful, but by seeing that I won 2nd place at my second tournament (which was just last week), she's relenting by saying that I can participate nationally next year if I go that far. I'm really excited. I just hope I can go far this year in the realms of state!

I'm an second year debater doing LD. My heart is in Extemp, but our school lacks LD teams. I'm around the 700s so still a little ways from a superior distinction. Quite busy this year, though. How does everyone think of the new resolution about juvenile crimes?

Y'all have juvenile crimes? Interesting. L-D UIL Texas debate is now centered on whether drug testing students in extracurricular activities is justified or not. It gets quite boring really fast.

Did anyone go to the Harvard LD tournament this weekend. My school went, like 7 of us. It was my third time doing ld, but somehow i managed to break and the went on to get owned by this other guy. I was still happy though.

i do interp. go interp!!!!

I went to the Harvard VLD tourney. I got a 4-2, with about 1.5 speaks from breaking.

I'm from a very, very traditional-style team. We tend not to do so well at national tournaments (with a few more traditional exceptions). The rounds that killed me were against a guy who sped and I couldn't flow (I lost, naturally) and a round in which my opponent had a value and no futher case structure (I won, but it was messy). I was Thomas Jefferson EM if you wanna check the ballots.

LD>Policy.

Do you guys think it would be possible for just a couple of us from my school's club to attend a local conference (without staying at a hotel since it's so close) without an advisor?

LD debater here... I don't do national circuit, primarily because I think it's not real debate.

Frankly, I couldn't care less about all the performative arguments and weird kritik garbage that goes on on the nat circuit. I like my debates to be about the topic at hand, not genocidal linguistics. I'm weird like that.

this new topic blows, btw

SonataX - My thoughts exactly. That's what I mean when I say that my team is traditional.

With that being said, national tournaments are fun for there own reasons. I've had some of my worst debates there, but also some of my best.

Ne1 have info bout the NJ LD league, when the comp is, the topic? I've been looking at the website and cant find what I need. My schools coach has been out from school and i need the info thanx.

end3590 - do you mean the NJFL tournament?

Is the NJFL wat sponsors the Lincoln Douglas debates? I'm not sure, I just know my school does the LD debates, I'm not sure under what orginization.
