I am new to this discussion thingy. A little info about myself: 16 yr old Chinese high school junior at Boston Latin School; I'm also a twin. Site: www.xanga.com/bostiegirl88.
Question: I will be taking the December SAT 2's in Italian and Writing. I didn't study yet and will probably not have much time to study for them. Any advice? Strategies? I heard rumors that ppl who take the Italian SAT 2 are native Italian speakers and those taking the Writing SAT 2 are naturally excellent writers. Are these rumors true? How can I earn good scores on these tests? Which prep book should I buy? I take Italian IV Honors and English 11 Honors. I think I'm ready but you can tell me otherwise.

First, get a copy of Real SAT II's, take your tests and see how you do. This will let you know where you need to brush up, as well as letting you practice. I would also suggest asking your english teacher to score the essay so you will have an objective viewpoint on how you did.

If it looks like you can break 700 with a little prep, do so and take the tests (you have time to retake). If not, concentrate on the one you are strongest in. My son is using PR for writing - other folks seem to like Sparknotes.

What complicates this is the fact that you are a junior - will you be taking the new SAT or are you trying to stick with the old one?

Most of the language SAT II's have the problem of native speakers taking them. Colleges realize this. I'm sorry, I can't recommend a specific book for this.

you don't need to introduce yourself really, and you sshouldn't post your xanga

I already took the old SAT and did well but I will also take the new SAT this spring since some colleges favor it more. I already took two SAT 2's before and got over 700 for both without studying. Thanks for your advice, ohio_mom. I'll try to take the practice exam in the Real SAT II book. I also don't like to retake SAT 2's.

i didn't study for the writing and my score was pretty good but i studied for french and math 1c and i did terribly on both so i don't know whats up
i don't htink you need to study for writing, everyone does pretty well
