“What is $50?”

a lot to some people…

You can be penny wise and pound foolish. Yes $50 is a lot of money.

If FSU is your top choice or a match and you are applying elsewhere to reaches, and if you do not want to end up paying a one year/12 mos lease instead of a 9 mos dorm contract, then JUST PRIOR TO THE SECOND NOTIFICATION DATE pay the housing deposit. Being closed out of on campus housing ESP IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A CAR is expense and inconvenient. Wait until just before the second round of acceptances. See where else you are in. But at that time, weigh it out.

Thank you for the responses. By Feb. 1st, I should know if I was accepted or not to all of my schools except for my two very high reach schools, and even know about scholarships at most schools. At that time, if I am still very interested in Florida State, I will make the housing deposit. Sound good?

Perfect. Good Luck

when i turned i looked on my status check when I firdt submitted my application, it told me that my desicion would be available December 8th at 12pm

Advice: You will know whether you were accepted or not before midnight of the 8th. Unless they fixed the flaw in their system, you can go to your account statement, and if it says you owe 200 bucks, you know you’re in (that’s the admissions deposit). This usually happens around 6 PM the night before admissions are posted. That said, if it doesn’t show up for you but it’s showing up for your friend, don’t freak out! They post the deposits in batches.

Then, at 12 AM when it’s official, don’t get to your status check, but go to the housing signup page. JUST SIGN UP. Doesn’t matter which halls you pick at this point, or which options you choose as you have until around March to change them! Just get that all important priority number, and make sure you pay the housing deposit within 10 days. You’ll be set for all years you live on campus.

Hey Matt- where is the account statement found? The only page I get to right now under status check is an application summary page.

So you’re screwed if you’re not sure if you want to go there so you don’t sign up for housing?

All but $50 of the housing deposit is refundable until May 1. The account statement is under secure apps, and will show up if you owe $200. The charge goes on in waves Tues evening sometime after 6pm.

MaydayParade,

I wouldn’t say you’re screwed, but you likely won’t get your first choice in housing unless you act decisively. At the very least, follow SunnyFlorida’s advice and sign up PRIOR to when the second wave of admission decisions are released. If you wait past this, you very well could be left out of housing. Ending up in Kellum or Smith is not the end of the world either; most people that live there end up liking it. The only downfall is if you wanted to live in Ragans in your Sophomore year, you will want a good priority number.

As for the account statement, there should also be a link in the admissions portal. Same place you paid the application fee I believe.

Lol ahh I see. I’m pretty sure I’m going to get deferred at best, but i’m pretty sure my best friend will get accepted and she has no idea where she wants to go… but I have a feeling it’s FSU so I’ll let her know (:

We found out last year about 6 hours before the official notification. To check your account info, you have to go to campus.fsu.edu. Log in and then pick the tab that says secure apps. Click on “My Account Statement”. If you owe $200 for an admission deposit, you are in. If you don’t have a balance showing yet, don’t panic, because the account info is loaded in batches and it may not be up yet. I agree that you should sign up for housing as soon as you know you’re in. My son was able to get number 100 last year, which is fantastic. He signed up for housing right at midnight and got his first choice dorm.

Even if you don’t get a low housing number, chances are you may still get a dorm room if you are patient. A friend’s kid forgot to sign up for a number until late April and had a number in the high 6000’s – he didn’t get a room in the first round, but eventually a spot opened up for him, albeit in one of the less popular dorms.

And for zoodle – the admissions guy gave you good info. I think she is probably in, with her gpa of 3.9. My son had higher scores (28) but a lower gpa (3.74) and he was admitted for the fall last year (this year’s freshman class). Your daughter’s scores are a little low but even so, I would guess she is admitted for fall because her grades are solid – I think the worst case scenario is a summer admit. Grades are more important than scores, so that is a good thing in your daughter’s case. Good luck!

Well, thanks, she’s so nervous right now. Me too. I’ll let you guys know tomorrow what happens!

11

Zoodle - this link shows you the FSU stats for summer admits. Your daughter’s stat are in the middle 50% for both GPA and ACT for FSU summer admits. Her GPA is on the high end of the middle 50% for GPA and her ACT is on the low end of the middle 50% for ACT. And her class rank is excellent.

http://www.inlikeme.com/files/2010%20FL%20SUS%20Matrix%20Final.pdf

So I think she is in for sure for the summer. The only question will be if she is in for the fall.

I remember this day a few years ago. GOOD LUCK TO ALL. FSU was a slight reach for my D, so we were so nervous. I was not on the med school clinical team then, and had no connections to FSU. She had the deposit showing by about 6pm. The wait to be sure until midnight was a long few hours as there was no mention of that back door knowledge prior, so that year no one on CC knew if it was in for sure or not.

She hit the ground running. She has excelled, is very involved in management of the largest student run philanthropy on campus, is a VP on Panhel, and now wants to stay for grad school. She bleeds garnet and gold. Again, good luck.

Wow - 6pm and my son just had a tuition deposit listing on the blackboard.

30 ACT
4.4 Weighted GPA
a few ECs
10 AP and 8 Honors classes.

My daughters account says she owes $200. Is that a yes and should we make the deposit now?

Same here. Just paid the $200 Admissions Deposit.

I got in !

Officially accepted. Was also offered a $9600 freshman scholarship.
