December 2010 ACT Reading Discussion

Yeah, I had admiration as well.

What was the question for admiration?

-Haarlem was a place the painter would only leave temporarily
-dances were created by previous generations
-how big her house was not mentioned
-mongoose least harmed the palm trees
-social experiment meant “a program started by the WPA to increase number of jobs and revive morale in the US”
-photographs are a distortion of reality
-narrator first got the parka
-trimmed= embellished
-compounded= increased
-hedge= defense
-P.viscosa native to Hawaii
-3rd and 4th paragraphs provided context info on palms (or something like that)
-palms were less likely to be endangered on the mainland
-artistically inferior was not suggested by the passage
-seagull compelled narrator to invent a dance
-the contents of the reports at the town meeting were not mentioned
-bark was the least vulnerable part of the tree
-some works were sent to state archives
-the author came last because she played multiple roles: dancing, playing drums, etc.
-admiration
-Hawaiian guy collected seeds to plant them in his organization
-fixed= established
-date on painting shows an example of a date they can trace back to his painting (or something like this)
-Utrecht was the most fruitful place of his life
-churches were the subject of his paintings

I could have sworn the people who made the dances were the present generations, because it said they put their own spin on dances and had to create their own (bird dance) right in the passage?

it said most of the dances they performed were from their ancestors. meaning past generations

Hm, from that consolidated list I only have 1 confirmed wrong and 1 more probably wrong (I forgot what I put for the photography one).

Yeah I’ve got two that I might have gotten wrong

I as well, have minus 2 so far.
