Hi guys! I know it's a bit early, but we're down to just over a month left. So, with that....

What are you doing to prepare?

What score are you hoping for?

Hi guys! I know it's a bit early, but we're down to just over a month left. So, with that....

What are you doing to prepare?

What score are you hoping for?

As for answering my own questions…

I’m preparing using Barron’s ACT 36, Up Your Score ACT, and Cracking the ACT. More books are coming but aren’t here yet :|

I’m hoping for a minimum of 29, hopefully a 32 or higher. We’ll see.

fair warning to all: Last year’s December Science test was difficult. more so than usual. that’s why the “curve” was so nice. the other tests not so much though :)

also: your test center might get snowed out. mine almost did :(

My SAT last year was hit by the huge ice storm. Had to wait two weeks. lol. I live in the south though so it’s not likely to snow out. :)

Guys I really need help. My first ACT score in September was a 28 but on the October one I got a horrible 27. I got a 33 in reading in September but I got a 21 this time. I’m so frustrated

Got my second 31 in a row on the Oct ACT so possibly signing up for the Dec one.

@limmazom2 i am almost in the exact same boat as you, except with the 21 in science instead of reading

My friend just got a 36 on her ACT and it was her first time taking it. So naturally my jealous self wants a 36 as well (it’s my first time too) and I’m just putting wayyy to much pressure on myself, but I don’t know how to stop it.

Anyone have any tips for the essay? Should the essay have “examples” like the ones on the SAT essay? Is the rubric for the essays similar? I thought I wrote a decent essay for the SAT but ended up with 8.

This thread will help you with the essay, @EveningSwan

Are there any other seniors taking this for scholarship purposes?

On another note, I added Barron’s ACT and Princeton Review’s 1,296 ACT Practice Questions to my collection of prep books.

Upped my practice Math by four points. How’s the studying going, everyone?

@HereToHelpYou Thanks!

@GodsGem332 Wow! Awesome job! I focused this week on English which is supposed to be the easiest section to raise your score, but I haven’t seen any major improvements on my practice tests. Rhetorical questions are what’s killing my score.

@EveningSwan My main issue with English is remembering when to use to semicolon/colon and when an apostrophe is making a possessive. I think I could get a 36 if I could get that down. My main issue with Math is over-reading into it and Plane Geometry sucks. Lol. I want a 30 in Math if I can get it.

Does anyone else have trouble with the dash questions in English? There were some on the October test that I didn’t know

The dash questions can be a bit tricky, but in general they’ve been easy for me. Just remember that it has to have a beginning dash to have an ending dash. Usually the ones I come across in practice deals with that.

Oh, and guess what guys? I raised my Reading score on my practice test!

31 E
28 M
34 R
28 S

I still have to up math and science, but it came out to a 30.25 composite - which is what I really need!

Wow I have the exact same score as you except a 33 on Reading

Hey guys,

I am taking the exam in december too I am super nervous and anxious. Has anyone taken the exam and can give me a few tips? I am in in Canada anyone in the same boat? Also, I have studied, but I have run into issues when it comes to the Reading section My reading comprehension has always been weak.

@limmazom2 I have a similiar situation with reading. I got a 34 on the last practice test i took but a 24 on this reading. I think it had something to do with the format which was something i’ve never seen.

Another thing: Is this next ACT science test going to number the types of passages correctly like 5 6 7 or not because the last one didn’t have any 5 question passages. It’s harder to be strategic if ACT is going to throw change-ups at me.
