Hey, I know the ACT scores for December are rolling in. I was wondering if others who got them could go ahead and post their individual scoring breakdown, if they took it before what they got, what helped and worked for them or didn't work for them and what they want to do better next time if they are taking it.

I'll start:

English - 33
Math - 36
Reading - 36
Science - 32

I worked hard for english which was my worst, brought it from a 28 - 33 in practice. I went over every test in the official ACT book. I will take it again, I personally don't know what I will do for science. It's an endurance test, I don't have much testing endurance and collapsed in the Science section.

I probably didn’t try as hard on the act as I should have, I had a decent sat score for the colleges I was aiming for but decided to take the act anyways. Looking back though, maybe a little more prep wouldn’t have hurt-

English - 31
Math - 27
Reading - 22
Science - 19
Writing/Essay - 11

The science section really killed me, I got discouraged within the first 10 or 15 problems and sort of just guessed my way though 2/3 of it. I really had to pick up the slack on english (though the last time I took the act, it was administered by my school in 11th grade, I didn’t even know what the act was lol), I bought it from an 18 -> 31. I was surprised at my essay score, I was expecting around an 8 or 9 at most.

I only used the official act prep book and Mike Barret’s online course (this really saved me), and I did most of my reviewing the week leading up to the act. Don’t copy the schedule I used to prepare, though.

Dang your essay was pretty amazing. I was expecting a 11 or a 12 but I got a 10. i really wish I could know what to improve on. They didn’t really have many comments on the essay. How much is Mike barret’s online course? I think the science was awful. I didn’t finish it.

English: 36
Math: 36
Reading: 32
Science: 35

I don’t really know how I pulled off the 36 in English; I must have gotten a lot of lucky guesses. I’ll have to find some way to bring up my Reading score (any particularly good resources?), since it’s so much lower than everything else, but other than that I’m quite pleased.

For reading, I always underlined the answer in the passages. I used readng the passage within 2-4 minutes and spent ~5 minutes looking and underlining exactly where the answer was. Everything has to be in the passages except for things like “infer” but even those can be the passage. How did you prepare for english? I struggle with that one more than any of the others. I found this science particularly more difficult than the practice ones. Any tips on improving english and/or science? Is this your first time taking it?

This was my first time taking it and I didn’t really study since I was just trying to get a benchmark score, so I’m afraid I don’t know how to help you with English.
