December ACT 2008 Math

the k one was like if the sum of three, consecutive odd integers is k, how would you write the sum of the first two in terms of k

oh it was like (384+k)/6 = 85 and the answer to the triangle one was 32 or something, yeah

I got k - 3... I used te numbers 1, 2 and 3. The sum is equal to six and 1 plus 2 is 3. 6-3=3...

Oh wait, oops, your right, I thought that was the "test grades" one. But I got 2/3k - 3 or something. It said consecutive odd integers and I used 5, 7 and 9 to check

I got -1/2 for the triangle one. I actually set a matrix up and plugged values in till I got one with the same area. So, pretty sure about that one.

I got -3/4 too...

ah thanks--- no--- it was consecutive odd numbers

so -- 1, 3, 5; k being 9 the sum looking for 1+3

I got 2k/3 -2 = 4

11,13,15 ; k= 39

2k/3 -2 = 24 =11+13

Yeah-- Hipster ^.^ -- didn't see your end.

Can anyone do compilation of the answers we have discussed so far?

Yeah, your right deathlyboy. 3/4k -3 was just a really rough estimate because I couldn't remember exactly what it was

what was the 7/27 question? Was 7/30 one of the answer choices for that question? I think I made a stupid mistake and put 7/30...

was the slope (-1/2 or -3/4) question the last question? If so was the answer E or K?

It was the second to last.

ok was the answer E/K?

what about the 7/27 question?

I don't remember. I think 7/27 was B? Could be wrong.

7/27 was probability question-- just subtrating one from both denom and num for each card removed--

10/30 was the chance for one yellow card
9/29 was the chance for the second yellow card
8/28 was for third yellow
7/27 was for fourth and final yellow card

There was a question like 7/9 = 1/2 subtracting k from both the numerator and denominator of 7/9 will make this equation true. It's 5 right?

Yeah-- I believe I put 5

For three consecutive odd integers:
middle number = sum/3 =
k/3,
previous one is 2 less =
k/3 - 2,
altogether now
2k/3 - 2

For the triangle I got -1/2 and here is why: the slope between the two points that didn't change was -1/2, so if you moved the point along a parallet line the base and height stays the same.

Only 32 worked:
13<32<43

Was it -3/4 or -1/2? ahhh

I guessed -3/4
