December SAT International Test Discussion

this question is driving me crazy. could any1 help me out with my previous post?

sorry, i have no idea. i don’t remember a question like that
bump

The question was probably something like:

Mark Spitz was a celebrated swimmer in the 19XX olympics ____________.

And the 2 most common answers we were considering were

by winning 7 gold medals

,winning 7 gold medlas.

There have been good explainations for “,winning 7 gold medals”

[QUOTE]
the answer to the “gold medals” one was undoubtedly “winning 7 gold medals”

“by…” would render a prepositional error, falsely writing “decorated by”. it should have been “decorated with”, but, as there was no “with”, we had to have a comma somewhere to compensate for the “with”./QUOTE

[QUOTE]

“By” is wrong because it is an explanatory word, necessitating that the phrase that comes before it discusses a process, which in this case it doesn’t: “Mark Spitz was the most decorated winner of the Olympics” is a state. If the preceding phrase was something like “Mark Spitz became the most decorated winner of the Olympics”, then I think “by” would have been correct./QUOTE

incredible! thanks so much. my fading memory tells me that’s from section 10?

also, was the passage on the african-american author part of the experimental section? what about the one on houston program? thanks for any help once again!

I also want to know about Huston program. Does anyone remember the questions for this short passage?

“direct quotation” --answer for the two passages about university commercialization. can anyone recall the other options?

Good luck to everyone!

delayed scores, EURGHHH. anybody else from australia get delayed scores?

Same - delayed. :(

^^ same Sora - blerrrgh!!! So annoying! Plus nothing good on the telly either.

WHAT IS THIS SHIZ!??!? HUH!?!? HUH!?!??
i heard somewhere that for internationals that if ONE person from your country screws the tests the whole lot gets sent down to bottom of marking pile. or maybe i mishead. but seeing that im not the only one… *SPECULATION IS RIFE.

But we’re not all from the same country here.

Sci-Fry for example is from the UK - PS. HUGE CONGRATS for Oxford!!!  :D

So excited for ya buddy!

WHUT? OXFORD? belated congrats. =]
hangon, does that mean us random internationals have delayed scores?
think of the probability of that… pshh, so much for the ‘small percentage’.
