I am really anxious now as it's heading to the deadline
I am accepted by berkeley engineering undeclared major, which neans i can choose whatever major i want after one semester in berkeley.
and I also have Notre dame, with a little scholarship, so the tow are almost equally expensive
actually, i have already submitted the deposit for ND, because i really like the friendly student body, family atmosphere and personal attention, and i think my personality is a good match with ND.but ND's strength is in business, not engineering
but recently i can't help but thinking about berkeley's awsome engineering school, especially the wonderful program i got in. pretty sure i want to major in engineering, but kind of worried about whether i can fit in in berkeley. it is so large that i kind of afraid my life will be a lot more harsh.and i am afriad that berkeley will be too research oriented that undergraduated cannot enjoy its resources
also i want to go to graduate school or even phd
could anyone tell me which school is better when applying to graduate school?
i know berkeley is definitely a better choice for graduates, but what about undergraduates?academically, does these school equal for engineers?
really don't know where i should go......

It is really a matter of personal preference at this point. Berkeley and ND are both good schools. Both offer fine engineering programs. Don’t turn this in to a rankings game… Pick the school that fits your personality and interests better.

Which school do YOU like better from a livability and personal fit point of view?

thanks a lot!!!i think ND may be a better fit for me, but i am worried if a berkeley engineering degree can look better when applying for graduate schools. i think i can handle both schools, and i don’t want to trade better chance for graduate schools for just living better
frankly, i don’t even know which engineering program is better, and all i have in hand is the ranking, with berkeley 3#in engineering and ND about 40#. could you please shed light on the quality and prospect of the engineering program in these schools? Thanks!!!

Berkeley will be cut throat experience. University of Notre Dame, not so much but yeah Berkeley is more known for its engineering program. Berkeley also has more international and national reputation than Notre Dame.

As an International student, I can tell you that Berkeley is definitely more reputed Internationally. And cut-throat is not the right word to describe Berkeley Engineering. It’s tough, but people aren’t out to get you. In fact, it’s more collaborative. You and your peers will tackle the challenge as a team and not as opponents. Cut throat is more for pre-Haas and pre-med.
OP, your description of Cal is quite accurate. You will definitely have a harsher time at Cal than at ND. Berkeley students are actually proud of it and like to term it as their prep for the “real world”. Although I just see it as an excuse for lesser funds. Also, I wouldn’t worry about fitting in, because a large student body means that you will surely find a group of people who are just like you.
You could look up the average salaries of the engineering schools of both colleges. That will give you a good idea of what they are worth.
