Hey everyone, for admissions, is it better to apply decided or undecided? I hear from some people that if you apply as undecided, you have a better chance of getting admitted into the college. If you apply decided, your application automatically goes to the department (if you picked history major, it goes to the history dept.), and thus decreasing your chance of getting in because of the limitations in department openings.

I believe it depends on the college, and the major your going for.
For example 1 major might be really competitive in 1 school and not so competitive in another.

Per roblan, it depends. Questions to ask yourself:

a) Are you interested in a major that the school wants to recruit for because there isn't a lot of demand? (German, Classics, etc...)

b) Are you a minority in that area of study? (Woman in engineering, physics, math, etc...Asian male in art?)

c) Do you hve any extracurricular activities/awards that add plausibility to the idea that you would excel in that the area that you want to major in?

If you are choosing a popular major and don't stand out from the other applicants, it won't matter whether you indicate a major or not. And schools know how often people change their minds.
