I’ve come for some help…
I’m having a pretty hard time deciding between Fordham University and Northeastern Univeristy- I’m going to be studying Journalism. Which college is better academically, socially… etc… ? I’m going to be visiting both of them but I just want to see what other people’s opinions are- it’s interesting.
Thanks.

Do you want to be in Boston or in the Bronx? You'll have the answer to your question once you set foot on the campuses. Your gut will tell you.

While I think the answer ultimately lies in which university may be a better fit for your personality, there are some serious questions to consider:

1) Academic Quality
Northeastern has made great strides in the past few years, but Fordham is regarded as the more serious academic institution. Not that US News Rankings are the be all and end all, Fordham was ranked #70 last year and Northeastern was tied for #120. While small differences in rankings probably do not mean much, that is quite a gap representing differences between the two institutions.

2) Internships/Career Opportunities
This choice is tough. NYC is the capital of the world, hands-down, and also the communication and media capital. The opportunities are extraordinary and hard to beat. Northeastern has the Coop program, but the experience is only valuable if it is the style of education you may be looking for in college.

3) Campuses
Fordham is neo-gothic and traditionally collegiate in the middle of NYC. Northeastern is modern in Boston. Big differences.

4) Student Body
Both are diverse. But do you know about the campus communities at each? You MUST visit to see what the campus culture is all about because I assure you it is very different at these two schools.

5) Value
Depending on scholarships, f/a, cost of attendance, you need to decide what the value of each education represents to make a final choice. What do the graduation rates of each institution look like to give you an idea of outcomes? How about Prestigious Fellowships? Graduate School placements? Job placements? Study Abroad options? Personal attention? Class sizes? Student to Faculty ration? And so on...

Do some research apart from the message boards. Visit both campuses. Keep us updated.
