My top schools are UC Davis, San Diego State, and Cal Poly SLO. I have visited all three and San Diego State was my favorite campus. The only downside is that it’s about 5 hours from home and we have to go through the LA traffic to get there. I liked UC Davis’ campus but my favorite part is that it’s a hard school to get into. It’s also about a 4 hour drive but there’s usually minimal traffic. San Luis Obispo is extremely familiar because we go to the nearby beaches all the time and my cousin went there. I applied as a Biology major at San Diego and an Animal Science major at Cal Poly and Davis. However, I’m not sure what exactly I want to do. I’m open to completely changing my major if I find something I’m really interested in.
If you could give your input on my specific decision or tell me how you decided your college, both would be greatly appreciated! May 1 is approaching fast!
Not sure why you are worrying about driving distance since you probably will not be going home often during the school year.
Not sure where home is located, but the Amtrak train is an option to SDSU if you do not want to drive all the time. From the Old town station, you can hop on the Green Line Trolley directly to campus.
Also the Capital corridor train does go to Davis again depending upon where you live.
Things to consider when making your decision:
- Costs of attendance- are all schools affordable
- Ease of changing majors - SLO will probably the most difficult
- Academics- all schools will be challenging
- Social scene- active student life? Sororities/Sports/Theater/Concerts etc…
- Location- near the cost in a small town, near the coast in a large city or inland small town but access to a larger city
I just wanted to provide an update. I decided on UC Davis because of their Veterinary Program which I plan on entering after undergrad. I also fell in love with the campus and town the minute I arrived. I went to their decision day unsure on what college I would choose and ended up submitting my intent to register that day.
@jennanic01e: Thanks for the update and Go Aggies!!!
