I was originally waitlisted from Davis and almost all of my other UCs. I then decided to SIR to San Diego State. But, this Monday I was accepted into Davis. I am not quite sure what I want to be, but I do know is that I want to be my own boss. I just want to make good money and be happy. At Davis I will be going in as a Biology major and at SDSU I will be going in as a Business Admin major. Davis is about 30 mins away from me and SDSU is about 8 hours away. Wherever I go I want to have that ¨college experience¨ while still getting a good degree. It is something that I really want. Another thing that factors into this is that so many people that I know will be going to UCD. People that I do not want to see all the time. Not only this, but my dad sold his business and most likely will be moving to another state to set up the business which leaves my mom who has depression and anxiety alone if I go to SDSU. The following year my brother will go to college and my mom will move back with my dad. I told my parents that since I want that college experience I will not commute to UCD but rather stay in the dorm. I also do struggle from anxiety and depression myself and get stressed out very easily. My parents have done so much for me and I want them to be proud but I also want to be happy. I love my family a lot. The price for both UCD and SDSU will be the same. I am so sorry for this being all over the place. It is a lot of information and I needed to be brief. Thank you so much!
Academically, you need to decide if you want to be a biology major or a business major. Very different. It would be time consuming to move from business to biology partway thru your SDSU career. Davis of course doesnt have an undergraduate business degree, but does have managerial economics which is similar. I dont know how difficult it would be to switch from biology to managergial econat UCD, perhaps someone else could speak to that. So I think from an academic standpoint you need to decide on a course of study to drive your college selction.
Family wise, sounds like you should go to Davis. Its definitely a traditional college experience there jsut as SDSU, assuming you live on campus. Being closer to home sounds better for your circumstances.
All told, given your family and personal circumstances, I think you should got to UCD. Doesnt sound like you are that clear on major preference. UCD fits your situation better, and and the minor added advantage of being a moderately stronger school, although SDSU is plenty strong as well.
One other note, you should NOT concern yourself about seeing kids from your HS at Davis. You will not see them all the time. There was a kid from my high school at my college, (1/4th the size of Davis). I saw him once in 4 years. And even if you do see them, so what? You dont have to hang out with them. You’ll meet lots of new people and so will they.
