Decision day Count Down

Well last year when I applied I remember it saying December, like December 23rd. But I believe that means AT THE LATEST you’ll get it by that date. I think the results will come out in waves depending on how early you applied

We know a few things:

 1. The process has changed
 2. The website says decisions by December
 3. UM has released decisions earlier than advertised in the past
 4. At least one report by someone on this thread stating they had been to an info session at the university and had been told that some decisions would come out in November.
 5. The historical date for the earliest releases has come and gone

It all depends on how much the process has changed, which none of us truly know, dammit.

Do decisions come out based on how early you applied or the quality of the applicant or both?

I also attended an info session during which we were told that the decisions will start coming out in November. Then again, this was at the very beginning of August (when the website still said November) so maybe they decided to change it last minute and didn’t tell the info session people at that point?

ViggyRam, I’d say it’s a mix of both. If you applied early and are a shoo-in, then you’ll get your decision fairly early. But if you applied early and the adcoms aren’t quite sure, then they’ll probably hold off. At least, that’s my guess.

I applied late (26th), so should I not expect an early decision? (I have strong stats, but I’m also not domestic)

Don’t know where she got her info, but a friend whose son has also applied heard that the Admissions office has been overwhelmed w/ apps (over 40,000 so far) and won’t be releasing any decisions before Dec. I hope she’s wrong because the waiting is driving me crazy.

My son’s admissions counselor from U of M was at his school last week for an admissions info session and she said if he applied early he should hear back some time in November before Thanksgiving.

I guess we won’t know for sure until they actual start releasing decisions.

As for me, I’m waiting to hear when my friend gets his decision. He’s basically a shoo-in, and he applied in like mid-August, so I’m fairly certain that he’ll be one of the first to know.

@Viggy, you mean October 26? In that case, I doubt that you’ll be in the first wave of decisions, since they still have to go over your application. After all, there are people who sent in their applications in August haha. But you’ll still find out before December 23rd.

^yup, October 26th. Hopefully I’ll hear by late November.

More like due date countdown. Do I have until midnight of Oct 31 or Nov 1? How bad are the servers going to get?

^ I think it’s midnight October 31? I’m not positive though. Either way, I’d definitely NOT wait until the last minute in case the servers do start protesting the sudden onslaught of submitted applications.

^ Okay, so I’m reading around and it sounds like it’s actually midnight November 1. Could someone else confirm?

Anyone actually think it will be tonight?

No, I think it will happen in December as it says. On the website, there used to be an FAQ under the Early Action that asked something along the lines of “What can I do to get my decision released in the first ‘wave’?”

That FAQ is now gone. I’m assuming there are no more waves.

Of course, I could be wrong. After all, they were updating WA this morning. Here’s hoping.

i just did the live help available on the admissions website and the woman i was talking to said that they still are doing admissions on a rolling basis and that decisions will start coming out this month but they don’t know what day. also on the website it still says rolling. idk if this helps resolve anything…i’m anxiously awaiting decisions!

As I recently posted in another thread, my son’s Residency Status changed today… it is now “In-State.” They definitely seem to be working on it… let’s hope a decision comes sooner rather than later!

As I also posted on the other thread, here is the info I just got from admissions today after asking about both these things yesterday:

Hello,
Being as large of a University as we are, there are always going to be rumors and speculations as to our admissions dates and processes. For early action applicants we are guaranteeing that they will receive their decision by December 23rd, this date being the latest. As we make decisions we will mail them out in batches, however, no decisions have yet been made, nor do we know when we will being to release decisions. As for the residency status, if the status has already been determined, this does not mean your decision has been made, it is just a commonality in the application, and will have nothing to do with decision status.

Thanks and Go Blue!

While we are certainly not expecting a decision soon, we can at the very least be assured that things are in process. Seems like we are all patiently (or not!) waiting for any bit of information we can get from admissions.
