The first Decision Day is tomorrow and I was wondering who all is going? If you go, make sure to stop by the World Scholars table in the Trabant Multipurpose Rooms from 12-1!! I wil be there with other current World Scholars.
Thank you for the reminder! I’ll be going, looking forward to checking it out.
There’s also a breakfast reception at 8:30 in Trabant for people interested in the World Scholars Program
can you guys comment afterwards to people who will attend later decision days with stuff you did, if you got stuff out of it, and any tips? That would be very helpful, thanks!
I mean I am a current world scholar and I can tell you that coming to meet us and ask us questions will be very helpful for you in making your decision about whether or not to dare to become a world scholar
The university told me the breakfast was at 9…is it actually at 8:30?
So I have gotten word from the program advisor that the breakfast is at 8:30 but you can show up at 9 if you want/have to. The academic sessions start at 10.
I attended today’s Decision Day with my son. I thought it was well organized and informative. My S is a prospective Mechanical Engineering student and we found the program presentation informative and impressive. The students who were there to conduct lab tours and answer questions were obviously excited about their experiences with the program and the school. We had visited the school last year so we didn’t take any of the campus or residence hall tours, and instead spent the afternoon after the session wandering around on our own enjoying campus and Main Street. The school also gave my S a $20 gift card for the book store, which he happily spent on some UD gear. We were very glad that we attended the event.
My husband and I attended with our daughter. I was a little worried coming from out of state having not received the program of events until 2 days before. As soon as we got to campus there were students waving and cheering and showing us where to park. It was a very well run program with lots of opportunities to go off on your own. Plus the $20 gift card was a really nice gift
For UD to have a Decision Day in February is completely new. In past years they had 2 Decisions days on Saturdays in April after all the decisions had been sent out. Perhaps they are trying to get an earlier idea of have many students will submit their deposits (or decline acceptance offers) in order to help them figure out how many additional students to accept. I suspect they are trying to avoid a repeat of the prior two years where more students accepted offers of admission then they would have liked (in fact no students where accepted off the wait list these two years). I wonder if they plan on offering the UD in DC Program this year which started last year. Should be interesting to see. Good luck to those accepted already. If you should decide that you are definitely not going to attend UD please let them know ASAP. Many other applicants are waiting to hear for a decision.
My husband and I attended Decision Day with our D on Saturday. I can’t say enough about how much wonderful info was shared. We had visited JMU for a decision day the week before, and in comparison UD provided us with so much more info about the majors and campus highlights. The faculty and student panel within her major were super helpful and gave our D ideas about possible paths within the college. My D had been on numerous UD campus tours in the past, so we skipped those and spent her time talking with faculty and representatives from residence life, student organizations, etc. She asked many questions! There was also a lovely reception for legacy students at which we met some great alumni and prospective students. I am so thankful that Decision Day was offered in February. My D has waited a long time to make her decision and this Decision Day was very timely. I am sending her deposit today.
Good luck to everyone. My D decided on Penn State. But, my oldest is a junior at UD and loves it.
What is the difference between decision days and admitted student tours?
@udel2020 , Decision Days are more expansive than admitted student tours (and indeed, admitted student tours are a part of a Decision Day). They have things like info sessions for your major, breakfast with Honors/World Scholars, panels, and activity fairs. It’s a lot of fun!
@stellacastor Thank you!
I thought that I would bring this back up since the last 2 Decision Days is coming up.
IMHO the Decision Days can be very helpful for accepted students from the perspective of getting a better feel if they would “fit in” at UD, depending on their interests and what they are looking for in a college. UD is unique among all Flagship State Universities in that over 2/3rds of the students are from OOS, which in a number of ways gives UD a feel of being more of a private university as compared to all other State Universities where the greater majority of the students are from in-state. As part of the Decision Days most of the Major Departments give presentations about the majors within their respective Department so a student can get a better feel if what is provided educationally meets their interests. Also last year there was a presentation about the UD in DC Program which has been offered to some students in lieu of Fall admission this year. There are many other things presented regarding all the activities offered at UD. While UD is a medium sized school with about 17,000 undergrads it is large enough to provide the scope of activities available at much larger schools. From an academic perspective UD has often been identified as a “Public Ivy”. So if a student applies themselves the education they can receive is on par with any university in the country. Best wishes to all those who decide to attend as well as good luck with making your college decision, no matter where you elect to attend.
We will be there on the 9th, DD has seen the campus three times so this is for her to meet more people and for her Mom to see the programs since she missed the earlier visits we made. Looking forward to it!
We will be there on the 16th - haven’t seen the campus since last summer, so looking forward to it. It will be our last campus visit before D makes a decision. We’re down to U Del, Elon, UNCW and American. Very excited to see where she ends up!
