Decision dilemma! UW vs MU

So I'm from MO and so far accepted at University of Missouri and UW-Madison (still waiting to hear from Michigan, UNC but I really am not confident about them). I want to major in chemistry and possibly political science/economics, not 100% sure but something like that. I've talked to my parents and money isn't a huge deal with UNC and Wisconsin (probably ok with Michigan too) and I have almost a full ride to Missouri. Anyway I've decided that if accepted at UNC I will 100% for sure go there because I loved it so much.

In the very possible event that I get rejected from UNC and Michigan I am completely torn between Wisconsin and Missouri. I've been to Columbia, MO many, many times and my family is very connected there. I love the campus so much but I do kind of want to get away (as cliche as that sounds) I visited Madison in the summer, it was nice but I didn't get a great feel of the campus because there were no students there and there was a lot of construction going on. I'm going to visit both again but I'm so worried that whichever I decide I will always wonder what could've been!

I know that sciences at Wisconsin are probably better than Missouri especially chem. I just don't know! I need input!!! I know the decision is far away but it's just been bugging me

You never would regret going to UW. When the people are around you won’t even notice the construction which is winding down now anyway. But a few days by the lake will transform you.

I think you should try to visit Madison when the university is in session.

I am an alum of UW, but it was decades ago. I currently live in Columbia, MO and have significant connections to MU. I assume Madison is still a great college town, but in my opinion Columbia ranks among the best (I’ve lived in several). Both are large universities, but UW is bigger and feels that way. Classes are big, the campus is sprawling. That is true for MU also, but I think to a lesser degree.

It is a lot colder in Wisconsin. The summers are great, but most undergraduates don’t stay over the summer (I did). MU does not have Lake Mendota, sad to say.

If you are interested in doing research in chemistry, an argument could probably be made that UW will have more opportunities for undergraduates, since there are more and larger labs, more graduate students, more post-docs, etc. However, I know of quite a few undergraduates doing meaningful research at MU in both the physical and social sciences, so opportunities are there for those who are interested.

Try to visit Madison when classes are in.

Thank you both of you! I will visit Madison when classes start, and I know Wisconsin is really cold but I think I can handle it because I like the cold weather actually
