Decision "holistic review"

on the application status on my duckweb account it says Decision: Holistic Application Review. What does this mean?

Mine has said the same thing for a month. Anybody know what this means? Does it mean they are still reviewing? WE Will we still find out by December 15th if we submitted everything by November 1st?

So applied on 10/28 and a week later his status was changed to the same thing. For those interested in stats, he is OOS (CT), 3.3 gpa, 24 ACT, lots of activities, excellent essay and recommendations. He is waiting impatiently!

On the Holistic Review list too. Any news yet? Does anyone know of anyone accepted to UO from the Holistic Pool?

My son received a letter in the mail last week (after receiving the holistic review status online) saying that they needed his mid year grades,December ACT scores and they would review them and hopefully make a decision. They said in the letter that the decision could take only a few weeks from receiving the updated info.

My kid is also on Holistic review. Does anyone have an update?

no update here…thought my son would’v heard by now!

7th Semester grades have been sent. Has anyone received any news?

We are still waiting for news too in CT!!Son is so anxious, and has been since he received his letter of “holistic review” back in December. The letter said decision would be reached in a few weeks.
Mid year grades have been sent, and every day we check with no updates.
Has ANYBODY that was on holistic review and applied early been accepted/deferred/denied?

Same for my son! Waiting is heck.

I have friends who applied, and from what I understand, if you have lower scores/a lower GPA or other factors in your application that require a bit more thought from the committee, you’re moved to the holistic review pile. The committee spends more time looking at soft factors, such as essays and extracurriculars, to see if the scores don’t really represent your academic potential. I think this process was put in place to give students with lower stats a more fair chance at admission. I’ve also heard that they change the status to “holistic review” if they want more materials to make the decision, i.e. mid-year grades.

Has anyone heard anything within the last week? Three friends were moved from “Holistic Review” to accepted on March 4. My son and a few of his friends are still waiting.

I was also put on holistic review and I’ve been waiting since November, the weird thing is I’ve gotten into other schools with a way lower acceptance rate. When I applied UO was my first choice, but the waiting for 4 months and going to see other colleges that did accept me makes me not want to go anymore. They put me on holistic review because I had a D and a few Cs freshman year… 1 D then my other years my GPA was a 3.5 and above…It just makes me a little angry… They said if I made it up they would put me off of holistic review but I don’t have the time…

XlunaX, I too don’t get it. GPA and SAT are all within the acceptance norms. Only two Cs in four years. 400 hours CS and lots of EC. Accepted at 7 other schools. UO is still choice number 1 .

UO is trying to move up in the rankings. With the recent sports successes and more national recognition, they see an opportunity to increase selectivity. I think they want to become the next UW. In 2012 they stopped auto-admitting people and asked all applicants to write an essay. All of these factors point to a desire to bring in applicants with stellar records. Best of luck to your son! Hopefully good news will be coming in the next week.

I am under Holistic Application Review as well. I wish that they would tell us something already! Has anyone else been rejected/accepted after being under review yet?

Kingpugster, My child knows 5 that have moved from Holistic review to accepted. All 5 have chosen not to attend. All were accepted at higher choice schools. UO was a backup for them. My child actually wants to attend as they offer his major that most schools do not.

Even if I do get accepted I don’t think I’ll be able to go, I know a friend who got accepted and they gave her no aid, not even a scholarship, she even has a 4.0, but a high efc (at least in my terms) It might actually be cheaper to go to an out of state liberal arts school. I’m still waiting… They said late March so I guess I’ll know this week. I’m actually going on a UO campus tour tomorrow, I guess I’l see if it’s worth the wait and anxiety. Also I was accepted into 7 other schools with pretty good scholarships, which makes it hard to stay interested in UO.

Still waiting… Aren’t we supposed to hear back by the end of this week?

No later than April 1 is what UO says. I am losing hope as my Duck-Web still has me under Holistic Review. People are posting their acceptances daily on the UO Twitter page. I get depressed each time I see it.
