I got an 87% on my SSAT! Which is really good, but compared to other CCers it is below average. Believe me, prep school CCers are not the average applicants. Almost everyone is 90+ and about 75% are 95+. Don’t be discouraged. What’s 3, 4, 5%? A few questions? Now tell me what is more important? 2 years of hard work, or a few question on a Saturday morning.

I wish you the best of luck. PA-C’s son and I hope to attend Middlesex! You certainly can too!

i believe gemmav, an admissions officer, once wrote that they don’t differentiate between 82nd percentile and 89th percentile. i’m not sure if it was her, but i think it was. that’s 7 points. now if you think about it, 84+7= 91. 91st percentile? not bad, am i right?

this may not be true for all scores, however, i’m just trying to make the point that just missing a few questions can bring your score down 7 percent. admissions officers know this, and i believe they consider everyone over or around 80th percentile to be people who are smart, and can do the work. remember, even though this test compares you with other kids, it does not tell how smart you are. it may give a feel of it, however, there are geniuses, with off the chart iqs, who could get 50th percentile. not saying that’s bound to happen, but it could happen.

bottom line, ssat shows that you can do the work, but admissions officers look beyond your score. they’re not going to say, “oh look, an 84th percentile, they’re not over 90, i’m throwing this app. out!”

this is my opinion on how schools think, don’t kill me if it’s incorrect.

You should only really care about the SSATs if you’re applying to day schools… it’s gone around that boarding schools don’t really care as long as you’re within the upper quintile.

Yah, I have heard that too. Day schools have like a cutoff of something. Like for example a day school may have an 80 cutoff and then everything under is out.
