Decision Mistake

I am an out of state student applying to be in the school of music.
When I checked my application status on Sunday, it gave me the ‘not accepted’: We regret to inform you that you do not…etc; however yesterday I received and e-mail saying: Last Friday, you may have noticed an admission decision on your Applicant Center. This decision was posted by mistake. Your application is still being considered pending a final audition decision. If you receive an admission-related letter in the mail from us in the next few days, please disregard it.
…
We apologize for our error. We want you to know that we continue to collaborate with the School of Music regarding their final audition decision for you.

They also called my home phone, and I got yet another e-mail saying yet the same thing. Have any other students (especially ones applying as a music major) had this happen?

My son is also an out of state student applying to the school of music. He had the exact same experience. He was devastated to see the “not accepted” status, initially. We called the school of music and they were surprised that any decision was posted, as final decisions should be withheld until after the audition. The school of music told us that this error affected 60 students in total (not all music students). The school of music was quite apologetic about the error, and reassured us that all decisions would take place after the audition.
We wondered if the “not accepted” status would have been accurate if he weren’t applying for music. It appears that it is a very competitive applicant pool this year at OSU. Our son’s stats are: 28 ACT and 3.69 GPA. Let us know and good luck!!
