I wasn't using Lafayette as a safety, but it certainly wasn't my number one choice. I have about a 90 unweighted average, taking all AP and Honors class, and yes I did show interest in the school. Personally I thought my essay was well written, and apparently so did other colleges. In response to drock16drock I applied to 14 schools, at have been admitted to 5 and waitlisted at 1 (Lafayette) thus far. I'm not too annoyed, just kind of surprised, but anyway best of luck to everyone else.

accepted, but no merit aid, so i'll probably go elsewhere. 1390/1600, 2050/2400

my friend had 1380/1600 and got trustee scholarship. grrrrr

oh well! neat school, but probably not the place for me.

ACCEPTED!!!!!!! yay!! all thats left now is financial aid

Accepted!!

Hmm that's really strange. Lafayette seems quite random this year.

Well, I wouldn't say it's random. You need to take into account all the different groups. International students, children of alumni, coach-recruited athletes, geographic outreach, ED applicants, diversity, etc. Like all very selective, liberal arts colleges, Lafayette has to do a lot with its entering first-year class of ~600 people. There isn't a "one size fits all" thing going all.

Plus, the fact that one person got a scholarship with lower SAT scores than someone who didn't shows that they don't just care about one thing. It isn't just grades or SATs or recommendations. It's you as a whole person.

person33,

All very true!
